# Colorful Coat Hangers The 'Eames Hang-It-All' by Herman Miller Updates a Classic By Meghan Young | Published 2010-11-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eames-hang-it-all References: [core77](http://www.core77.com/blog/object_culture/herman_miller_updates_an_eames_classic_17823.asp) & [hermanmiller](http://www.hermanmiller.com/Products/Eames-Hang-It-All) The [Eames](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ec127) Hang-It-All coat hanger reminds me of something that I would see in a high school chemistry class. Yet this playful and [colorful design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/no-two-alike) doesn't suffer from that comparison. In fact, I find it a great piece of home decor. Designed by [Herman Miller](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/herman-miller-new-mexico-collection), the Eames Hang-It-All is actually an updated version of the iconic coat rack by Charles and Ray Eames. Originally created in 1953 for a children's room, this version can be used in any part of the house. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 7% | Activity: 19% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Colorful Coat Hangers:** Colorful coat hangers as a fun and playful design choice for home decor. - **Updated Classics in Home Decor:** Designing and updating classic items in home decor can bring new life to iconic pieces. - **Multi-purpose Products:** Creating products that can be used in different parts of the house or for different purposes can add versatility to home decor. ### Where This Applies - **Interior Design:** Interior design can benefit from creating fun and updated versions of classic decor pieces like coat hangers. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can explore updating old designs with playful and colorful twists like the Eames Hang-It-All. - **Home Accessories Retail:** Home accessories retailers can expand their product offerings with multi-purpose items like the Eames Hang-It-All that can be used throughout the home. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sustainable Classic Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ec127.md) - [Quirky Structural Clothes Hangers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hang-we.md) - [Modernized Wooden Stool Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eames-turned-stool.md) - [Recycled Mid-Century Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eames-shell-chairs.md) - [Smiley Clothing Wall Hooks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/itsahook.md) - [Geometric Design Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-little-toy-by-eames-office.md) - [Playful Monkey-Inspired Coat Stands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monkey-coat-stand.md) - [Geometrically Shaped Hanger Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/triangle-hanger.md) - [Sporty Climbing-Inspired Hangers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grip-hanger.md)
