# Wintry Shale-Covered Homes 'E20 Private Residence' Has a Consistent Coloring Throughout By Joey Haar | Published 2017-04-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/e20-private-residence References: [archdaily](http://www.archdaily.com/869086/e20-private-residence-steimle-architekten-bda) E20 Private Residence is a striking, modern home on the outskirts of the small town of Pliezhausen, about 30 kilometers south of Stuttgart, Germany. Though German, the home has a distinctly Scandinavian appeal to it, with a [monolithic, white design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-anton-ii) that stay consistent throughout every aspect of the interior and exterior. E20 Private Residence's aesthetic begins with its facade. The home is covered in [smooth and subtly blended shale stones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-atrium-house) that are uniformly greyish white. White indeed characterizes the entirety of the home, albeit in slightly different shades throughout. The exterior might be described as taupe, while the interior is a pure, bright white, with [exposed grey concrete accents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alma-switch-house) in places where the foundation of the structure tastefully shows through. The clients who requested the home seem to have a thing for off-white shades, as their car is even a beige hue. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.6/10 - Popularity: 9% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Monolithic Design:** The trend towards monolithic building designs that create a consistent look throughout the interior and exterior of a structure presents disruptive innovation opportunities for builders and architects seeking to create visually striking homes and buildings. - **Scandinavian Aesthetic:** There is a growing trend towards the clean, modern lines and monochromatic color schemes of Scandinavian design, which represents a disruptive innovation opportunity for furniture designers and home decor companies. - **Shale Coverings:** Innovative home builders and designers may start exploring the use of shale stones for covering the exterior of homes as a trendy and visually intriguing alternative to more traditional materials like brick and wood. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Architects and builders can explore new possibilities for monochromatic building design and innovative materials like shale for covering exteriors. - **Interior Design:** The trend towards Scandinavian aesthetics presents innovative opportunities for furniture designers and home decor companies to create simple, elegant and clean designs that blend well with this design ethos. - **Real Estate Development:** The growing trend towards Scandinavian aesthetics and monolithic design could open up new opportunities for real estate development by creating strong and consistent visual identities for homes and neighborhoods. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [All-White Ontario Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bldg-workshop.md) - [Modern Dark Tonal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/texas-residence.md) - [Monochrome Living Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grigio-verde.md) - [All-Grey Holiday Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grey-house.md) - [Refined Modern Dwellings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silver-house.md) - [Monochromatic Minimal Cozy Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vaulted-monochrome-haus.md) - [Grey-Praised Minimal Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elogio-del-grigio.md) - [Monolithic Sleek Summer Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vollerup-atrium.md) - [Ukranian All-Beige Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/allbeige-home.md)
