# Sensory Movement Chairs The Dynamic Chair Encourages Bodily Expression By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-10-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dynamic-chair References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2014/10/08/govert-flint-dynamic-chair-computer-mouse-body-actions/) & [govertflint](http://www.govertflint.com/) Govert Flint designed the '[Dynamic Chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/archipen),' a seat which allows the user control of their computer cursor through their body. First, Flint made sure the chair was able to accommodate a large range of [bodily motion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/freedom-chair); he then partnered with Sami Sabik, a computer programmer, to convert the user's movements into on-screen movements. Flint wanted to create a piece of furniture that facilitates our bodily expression, noting that there appears to be a disconnect between furniture and its function. The back, seat and leg supports of the Dynamic chair can operate seperately. Each of these elements are fashioned from wool-coated polyester padding, which is supported by an iron-welded frame. Accelerometers are arranged around the chair in order to measure the user's movement. The data is then fed to the computer, allowing the user to [move the cursor on the screen](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tgif-t0). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 36% | Activity: 45% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sensory Furniture:** Opportunity for designers to create furniture that interacts with our senses and facilitates bodily expression. - **Body-controlled Technology:** Opportunity for programmers to explore the potential of using bodily movements to control technology. - **Smart Textiles:** Opportunity for textile companies to develop materials that can sense and respond to bodily movements. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture:** Furniture companies can create innovative products that interact with our senses and facilitate bodily expression. - **Technology:** Opportunity for technology companies to develop body-controlled devices and applications. - **Textiles:** Textile companies can invest in developing smart materials that can sense and respond to bodily movements. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Movement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbl-rocking-chair.md) - [Dynamic Ergonomic Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/libernovo-omni.md) - [Sit-Stand Office Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/movably-pro.md) - [Sloped Movement Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tippi-chair.md) - [Performance-Driven Ergonomic Office Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ergonomic-office-chair2.md) - [Flexing Ergonomic Dining Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/noho-move-chair.md) - [Dynamic Movement Gaming Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tgif-t0.md) - [Naturalistic Grass-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-flip-chair.md) - [Versatile Dynamic Armchair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dynamic-armchair.md)
