This retail space sells items from upscale fashion brands like [Valentino](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dubai-airport-popup) and [Saint Laurent](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/saint-laurent-rive-droite-1), as well as an assortment of traditional crafts and souvenir items. In the style of other duty-free stores, items purchased in this location are exempt from consumption taxes and duties at customs. In order to cater specifically to foreign travelers, the shop makes it possible for people to arrange for their purchases to be sent to a Japanese airport upon their departure. Japanese residents are also able to purchase items from the store if they have plans to leave the country within a month. Prior to the introduction of Japan Duty Free Ginza, the only place in Japan that was permitted to operate these kind of duty-free shops was Okinawa, which is known for attracting a high number of tourists. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 43% | Activity: 35% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [World](https://www.trendhunter.com/world) > [Travel](https://www.trendhunter.com/travel) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Non-airport Duty-free Shops:** Opportunity for duty-free shops to expand beyond airports and tap into new markets such as department stores and shopping malls. - **Remote Pick-up Locations:** Opportunity for duty-free shops to offer remote pick-up options, such as sending purchased items to a convenient location for customers before they leave the country. - **Domestic Duty-free Shops:** Opportunity for duty-free shops to cater to domestic travelers as well as international ones, offering tax exemption and other perks for those planning to leave the country within a certain time frame. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Retail:** Retail industry players can explore the potential of incorporating duty-free shops within their premises in order to attract foreign travelers and boost sales. - **Tourism:** The tourism industry can benefit from the growth of duty-free shops as a means of attracting and encouraging spending from international travelers. - **Logistics:** Logistics companies can explore opportunities to partner with duty-free shops and offer convenient remote pick-up options for customers' purchases before they leave the country. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Airport Whiskey Pop-Ups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-suntory-and-lotte.md) - [Duty-Free Tea Stores](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fortnum-and-mason-dubai.md) - [Vintage Duty Free Retailers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/preloved-boutique-at-lisbon-airport.md) - [City-Based Resort Expansions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fufu-tokyo-ginza.md) - [Regionally Inspired Retail Destinations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kenzo-dubai.md) - [Luxury Japanese Chocolate Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ginza-chocolat-daifuku.md) - [Fragrance-Inspired Airport Cafes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miss-dior-popup.md) - [Digital Duty-Free Catalogues](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skybuys.md) - [Airport Gaming Stores](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hong-kong-international-airport-1.md)
