# Glowing Basketball Hoops The Dunk Light is Perfect for Jock Bachelor Pads By Meghan Young | Published 2012-03-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dunk-light References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/5896105/basketball-hoop-lamp-is-most-certainly-not-for-dunking) & [shop.thefutureperfect](http://shop.thefutureperfect.com/dunk.html) The Dunk Light is made for jock types, especially basketball aficionados. Modeled after an actual basketball hoop, it brings a chic sports element into homes. Perfect for bachelor pads, the Dunk Light is not to be dunked upon, no matter what its name suggests. Designed by Karl Zahn, a [freelance product designer](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/little-lebow-table-lamp) living and working in Brooklyn, New York, the Dunk Light is made using a [cool white circline fluorescent bulb](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/big-glow-light). The Future Perfect observes that the Dunk Light is "a blend between the incredible functionality of a basketball hoop and the ironic fragility of a light bulb." Thus, a tension is born. People will have the urge to dunk on the Dunk Light, but its design will not allow it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 25% | Activity: 45% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Smart Home Lighting:** The Dunk Light exemplifies the trend of integrating sport-inspired lighting fixtures into smart home systems. - **Athleisure Home Decor:** The Dunk Light represents the growing trend of incorporating athletic elements into home decor, merging functionality and style. - **Nostalgic Design:** The Dunk Light taps into the trend of nostalgia by utilizing the iconic symbol of a basketball hoop in a unique and unexpected way. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor:** The Dunk Light offers an opportunity for home decor companies to create more sports-inspired lighting fixtures for consumers seeking a unique and stylish look. - **Smart Home Technology:** The Dunk Light aligns with the smart home industry and the market demand for innovative lighting integration in homes. - **Sports Merchandise:** The Dunk Light presents a disruptive innovation opportunity for sports merchandise companies to expand their product offerings beyond traditional items and into functional home decor. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sporty Wall-Mounted Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3dprinted-lamp-1.md) - [Intelligent Basketball Hoops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-basketball-hoop.md) - [Artfully Crafted Basketball Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/home-court-1.md) - [Space-Saving Smart Basketball Hoops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/huupe-mini.md) - [Limited Miniature Basketball Hoops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/west-4th.md) - [Chic Saucer-Shaped Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-in-tight-light-fixture.md) - [Floating LED Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poof-light.md) - [Eye-Catching Basketball Parks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/basketball-park.md) - [Design-Conscious Arcade Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arcade-basketball-game.md)
