# Tree-Lined Urban Highways The Dubai Green Spine Will Include One-Million Trees By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2024-07-13 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dubai-green-spine References: [yankodesign](https://www.yankodesign.com/2024/07/12/dubais-40-mile-green-spine-will-include-one-million-trees/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=dubais-40-mile-green-spine-will-include-one-million-trees) & [urb.ae](https://urb.ae/) The [Dubai](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joby-aviation-inc) [Green Spine](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/green-wedge) has been designed by [URB](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-loop-1) as a highway that will extend through the cityscape to provide a dedicated way to get around, while also offering ample tree covering. The area will stretch around 40-miles and will be focused centrally around the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road region to incorporate a tree canopy as well as ample routes for transportation. The area will also be connected to a large solar panel array that would provide electricity to a tram system to help citizens get around in an eco-friendly way. The solar panel system would also provide electricity to around 130,000 homes, while the integrated bioswales would capture rain water and gray water. URB spoke on the Dubai Green Spine saying, "This initiative not only promotes a healthier, more active lifestyle but also significantly reduces the need for vehicular travel, thus lowering urban traffic and its associated environmental impacts. The Green Spine’s role in this broader urban planning framework showcases its commitment to creating a more accessible, efficient, and environmentally friendly city.” ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.6/10 - Popularity: 79% | Activity: 64% | Freshness: 25% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) > [Eco Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/ecoarchitecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Urban Green Highways:** Integrating green elements into urban highways can reduce environmental impact and enhance city aesthetics. - **Solar-powered Transportation Networks:** City infrastructure powered by solar panels offers a sustainable alternative to traditional energy sources for public transit systems. - **Integrated Water Management Systems:** Using bioswales for capturing rain and gray water in urban designs can promote efficient water use and improve sustainability. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Urban Planning:** Evolving city designs to incorporate green spaces and sustainable transportation options redefines modern urban living. - **Renewable Energy:** Deploying large-scale solar panel arrays within cities can revolutionize how urban areas manage their energy needs. - **Landscape Architecture:** Incorporating trees and bioswales into city layouts introduces innovative methods for enhancing environmental resilience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Expansive Cycling Covered Highways](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-loop-1.md) - [Climate-Controlled Cycling Paths](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cycling-path.md) - [Carbon-Neutral LED Trees](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/led-tree.md) - [Tree-Inspired Solar Panel Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solarbotanic-energy-tree.md) - [Mangrove Forest-Inspired Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/once-upon-a-forest.md) - [Tunnel Six-Lane Highway](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/land-bridge-and-prairie.md) - [Sky-Garden Leisure Towers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-sobha-skyparks.md) - [Urban Greening Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urban-green.md) - [Highway-Side Narrow Skyscrapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/muraba-veil-skyscraper.md)
