# Suspended Sound Systems The Drop the Beat Speaker is Inspired by Water Droplets By Meghan Young | Published 2012-10-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drop-the-beat-speaker References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2012/10/15/hot-drop-speakers/) & [vincentsall](http://www.vincentsall.com/) The Drop the Beat speaker may have been inspired by drops of water, but it happens to resemble a [penant light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/echoes-of-the-deep) more than anything. Hung from the ceiling, the slim body does take some notes from the shape of a water droplet. For instance, the base has a triangular shape, quite like the initial rise of a body of water when a drop descends into it. Designed by Vincent Säll, the Drop the Beat speaker is nevertheless more [edgy and contemporary](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brutalist-speaker) than naturalistic. Available in a slew of [vibrant colors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teklan-collection), it would suit modern homes and offices while complementing computers perfectly. With a touch of Scandinavian minimalism, the Drop the Beat speaker isn't immediately recognizable as a speaker. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 41% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Minimalist Design:** The Drop the Beat speaker showcases Scandinavian minimalism, presenting an opportunity for companies to create sleek and simplistic products. - **Contemporary Lighting:** Inspired by the shape of a water droplet, the design of the Drop the Beat speaker resembles a pendant light, highlighting potential for innovative lighting solutions. - **Multifunctional Technology:** The Drop the Beat speaker's slim body and compatibility with computers suggests an opportunity to develop versatile technology that combines audio and visual capabilities. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor:** The sleek and modern design of the Drop the Beat speaker makes it an ideal fit for the home decor industry, allowing companies to create stylish and functional products. - **Lighting:** With its resemblance to a pendant light, the design of the Drop the Beat speaker offers disruptive innovation potential in the lighting industry by introducing unique and contemporary lighting solutions. - **Audio Technology:** The Drop the Beat speaker's integration with computers opens up opportunities for the audio technology industry to develop multifunctional and user-friendly devices. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Drop-Shaped Smart Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pantheone-audio-obsidian.md) - [Ceiling-Mounted Orb Speaker Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/andr-terchanian.md) - [50s-Style Light Speaker Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lighting-speaker.md) - [Floating Spherical Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alex-casabo.md) - [Ice-Inspired Ferrofluid Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iceberg-crystal-speaker.md) - [Sculptural Sound Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acoustic-sculpture-speaker.md) - [Ultra-Thin Chromatic Speaker Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diyr-speaker.md) - [Industrially Designed Desktop Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desktop-speaker.md) - [Space-Inspired Sound Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beosound-2-vollebak.md)
