# Inflatable Icicle Structures The Drift Installation by Snarkitecture Takes Inspiration From Nature By Jana Pijak | Published 2012-12-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drift-installation-by-snarkitecture References: [frameweb](http://www.frameweb.com/news/drift-by-snarkitecture) & [miami2012.designmiami](http://miami2012.designmiami.com/) The Drift installation by [Snarkitecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brokenaesthetic-sculpture-collection) is an [inflatable pavilion structure](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/havn) showcased at [Design Miami](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-scad). The Brooklyn-based design firm creates a whimsical hangout that takes its inspiration from the natural world around us. Channeling icicle shapes, hanging tubes are grouped together, hanging at different heights and resembling stalactites within an ice cave. This inspiring space is created using inflated vinyl tubes grouped together as an enclosure that does not block out light but instead allows for the sun's rays to pass through it. Serving as both a ceiling form and as seating units for visitors, these cylindrical tubes create a dreamlike setting. The Drift installation by Snarkitecture challenges the boundaries of traditional design and can be seen displayed at this year's Design Miami festival. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 45% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Inflatable Pavilions:** Companies can explore creating more inflatable pavilions for events or permanent installations. - **Nature-inspired Design:** Creating designs inspired by the natural world can provide a unique and visually stunning experience. - **Light-filtering Structures:** Structures that let light through in innovative ways can create beautiful and functional spaces. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Event Design:** Inflatable pavilions and nature-inspired designs can offer event planners exciting and eye-catching options. - **Architecture:** Innovations in light-filtering structures can inspire new designs and techniques in architecture. - **Interior Design:** Nature-inspired design and light-filtering structures can serve as inspiration for unique interior design ideas. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Inflated Design Classroom Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/intermittent-dome.md) - [Artful Garden Inflatable Spheres](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/this-is-air.md) - [Stone-Like Discreet Glass Viewpoints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drifting-stones.md) - [Monumental Air Installation](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iwagumi-air-scape.md) - [Algae Resin Pavilion Forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puddle-pavilion.md) - [Inflated Design Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-as-a-main-material.md) - [Illuminating Water-Based Pavillions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelter-pavilion.md) - [Inflatable Vibrant Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forest-dancer.md) - [Spiky Inflatable Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inflatable-sculptures1.md)
