# Pencil-Shaped Lamps The 'Drew the Pencil' Lamp is a Quirky Piece of Functional Home Decor By Mishal Omar | Published 2016-10-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drew-the-pencil References: [kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1070583203/drew-the-pencil-lamp?ref=category_featured) The cleverly named 'Drew the Pencil' lamp appears to defy the laws of physics by standing up on what looks like a relatively small and unstable point. The [quirky lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/little-lebow-table-lamp) is shaped just like a [large pencil](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/experimental-pencils), with a yellow middle, metallic holder and in place of an eraser at its top, it instead has a cylindrical light bulb. The lamp is much larger in size than a pencil and is perfect as a [bedside light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-table-light) or as a source of light while working. Its malleable wire can be arranged to look like a pencil scribble, further adding to its endearing design. Drew the Pencil makes for the perfect piece of functional decor for those who enjoy quirky pieces in the home, or even for children's rooms. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 24% | Activity: 20% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Quirky Home Decor:** The 'Drew the Pencil' lamp demonstrates the demand for unique and unconventional home decor pieces. - **Functional Lighting:** The lamp's practicality as a bedside light or work light highlights the trend towards functional lighting solutions. - **Malleable Design:** The lamp's malleable wire design showcases the trend of customizable and versatile home decor. ### Who This Affects Most - **Home Furnishings:** The lamp appeals to the home furnishings industry, which can explore more unique and quirky designs for functional decor. - **Lighting:** The lamp presents an opportunity for the lighting industry to create innovative and creative lighting solutions. - **Children's Products:** The lamp is well-suited for the children's products industry, as it can captivate young minds with its playful design. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Oversized Pen Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bic-lamp.md) - [Quirky Common Item Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/table-lamp-lighter.md) - [Portable Pen-Holding Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pod-lamp-concept.md) - [Space-Saving Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacesaving-desk-lamp.md) - [Storage-Friendly Task Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/storage-lamp.md) - [Desk Organizer Lamp Hybrids](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/engrid-desk-lamp.md) - [Pencil-Resembling Power Strips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pencil-multitap.md) - [Air Balloon-Inspired Lamp Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-balloon-lamp.md) - [Simplistic Angular Desktop Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linear-table-lamp.md)
