# Whimsical Reality-Bending Photography Luis Beltran's Photography Borders Dreams and Reality By | Published 2013-06-11 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dreams-and-reality References: [lostateminor](http://www.lostateminor.com/2013/06/10/fantasy-art-by-luis-beltran/) & [luisbeltran.es](http://www.luisbeltran.es) Luis Beltran's newest photography borders dreams and reality, analyzing what constitutes a dream and how reality can be bent in order to achieve a [dream-like effect](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cosmologyscape). Using [photo editing techniques](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polaroid-trance-camera), Beltran has managed to create several beautiful pieces of photography, each one depicting a medley of imagination and reality. For instance, one photograph shows a young girl on a plain wooden swing. However, instead of swinging from a swing set, the girl is swinging overtop of a gigantic, panoramic city. This type of situation could occur in a dream, or some fantastical daydream; but, like all dreams, it contains fragments of reality. The girl's swingset appears real, and so does the city; when paired together, the scene becomes unreal. Beltran's amazing photography series demonstrates that photography can be used to capture more than simple reality; it can be used to [alter reality](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripples-collection), transforming it into scenarios we could otherwise only imagine. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 82% | Activity: 64% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Photography](https://www.trendhunter.com/photography) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Dreamy Photography:** Opportunities in photography to create imaginative and reality-bending images through photo editing. - **Reality-altered Art:** Opportunities to create pieces of art that blur the lines between reality and imagination. - **Surreal Imagery:** Opportunities in the art world to create dream-like scenes and photography that challenge our perceptions of reality. ### Where This Applies - **Photography:** Opening new doors in the photography industry to create imaginative and surreal images through photo editing techniques. - **Art:** Disrupting traditional art genres and styles by merging reality and imagination in pieces that require a second, closer look. - **Graphic Design:** Creating a new and unique style of graphic design that incorporates dream-like aesthetics and fractured reality, appealing to those with a unique taste for the surreal. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [AI-Generated Real-World Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world.md) - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Surrealist Shopping Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dreams-is.md) - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md) - [Blurry Abstract Photography Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-allusion.md) - [Abstract Fantasy Home Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abstract-fantasy-home.md) - [Boundless Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frameless-experience.md) - [Paper Curvature Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-curves.md)
