# Vibrant Screen Lighting The Drawstring Lamp by Merry-Go-Round is Funky and Eco-Friendly By Meghan Young | Published 2013-01-25 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drawstring-lamp References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/merry-go-round-a-collection-made-of-waste-material/) & [merry-go-round.se](http://merry-go-round.se/2012/12/15/drawstring-lamp/) The Drawstring Lamp is a funky [hanging light fixture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nest-lamp) that is made out of an unorthodox material. Using a fabric crafted by Svensson Markspelle, which was originally applied as a sun screen, the light trickles out in an alluring manner. Emitting more of a [luminous glow](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/big-glow) than a strong light source, the Drawstring Lamp is perfect for rooms that require a romantic ambiance. Nevertheless, the Drawstring Lamp does have a funky side by way of its [vibrant hues](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-soft-serve-lamp) and hanging drawstrings, hence its name. Designed by Merry-Go-Round, a studio born from the combined efforts of a group of producers and artisans called Returhuset and Gothenburg, Sweden-based design studio Design Stories. Working with industrial waste material produced by local companies, Merry-Go-Round creates other furniture pieces as quirky and fun as the Drawstring Lamp. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Eco-friendly Lighting:** Opportunities for the design and production of lighting fixtures made from unconventional and sustainable materials could disrupt the traditional lighting industry. - **Romantic Ambiance Lighting:** There is an opportunity for designers to create lighting fixtures that prioritize creating a romantic atmosphere rather than solely providing brightness or functionality. - **Funky and Quirky Design:** Designers could disrupt the traditional furniture and lighting industries by creating unique, colorful and playful decor pieces. ### Where This Applies - **Lighting Fixtures:** The use of unconventional materials and designs can be applied to create new types of lighting fixtures that appeal to consumers looking for eco-friendly and unconventional decor. - **Sustainable Design:** Incorporating sustainable materials and repurposed industrial waste to create furniture pieces and lighting fixtures can revolutionize the way we view eco-friendly design. - **Decor and Furniture:** Designers can disrupt the traditional furniture and decor industries by creating quirky and playful pieces that stand out and appeal to consumers who want vibrant and unique living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Creative Lighting Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drape-light.md) - [Dynamic Geometric Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-drape-light.md) - [Inflatable Colorful Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/squeeze-inflatable-lamp.md) - [Ecological Dual Lampshade Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-light.md) - [Monkey Knot-Integrated Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/small-knot-pendant-lamp.md) - [Fishnet-Made Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/philips-mycreation-droplet-lamp.md) - [Translucent Bulbous Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/big-glow-light.md) - [Umbrella-Inspired Whimsical Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wasaga-lamp.md) - [Elegant Axis-Mounted Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pendulum-lamp.md)
