The design comes from Doowon Suh, who got inspiration for the project with the more recent destruction in Japan and Haiti. The design [folds out just like origami](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ori-lamp) and creates a stable living space. It would only take the [manpower of one person to construct](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-baby-box), making it ideal in situations of extreme devastation. Likely the product would be made from cardboard, so it would be cheap and easy to ship from country to country. [Tent cities and refuge centers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grayhus) would be a lot less hectic if this product was realized. It's a tremendous design that would allow for far more comfort during times of crisis. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 27% | Activity: 55% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Foldable Shelter:** A trend of foldable shelters that provide quick and easy living spaces during times of crisis. - **Origami-inspired Design:** A trend of designs inspired by origami, allowing for foldable structures that are both practical and stable. - **Affordable Disaster Relief:** A trend of affordable solutions for disaster relief, using inexpensive materials like cardboard to create easily transportable shelters. ### Who This Affects Most - **Emergency Housing:** The emergency housing industry could benefit from adopting foldable shelter designs, providing quick and efficient living spaces during crises. - **Humanitarian Aid:** The humanitarian aid industry could implement origami-inspired designs to improve the efficiency and comfort of refugee camps and disaster relief centers. - **Sustainable Architecture:** The sustainable architecture industry can explore the use of affordable materials like cardboard to create innovative and eco-friendly housing solutions for disaster-prone areas. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Eco-Friendly Modular Refugee Shelters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/allspace-1.md) - [Flatpack Oceanic Lifeboats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fold-and-rescue-lifeboat.md) - [Humanized Waiting Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/de-wachtkamer.md) - [Disaster-Ready Housing Prototypes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/essential-homes.md) - [Collapsible Outdoor Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-outdoor-furniture.md) - [Origami-Inspired Sleek Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/infinity-mobile-architecture-system.md) - [Reusable Framework Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unfold-form.md) - [Experimental Shelter Tents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grayhus.md) - [Singular Person Foldable Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-baby-box.md)
