# Eccentric Door Designs Nendo's Seven Doors Become Hybrid Home Features with Whimsical Charm By Amelia Roblin | Published 2015-05-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/door-designs References: [leibal](http://leibal.com/products/doors/) & [nendo.jp](http://www.nendo.jp/en/works/seven-doors/) Nendo has dreamed up some imaginative door designs that challenge the fairly limited expectations that users have of home entryways. Inspired by the 70th anniversary of door manufacturer Abe Kogyo, the designers have created a quirky collection of multi-purpose portals. Beautiful pale timber was used to make the frames and the panels of each of the door designs, which all extrapolate from a standardized form. Nendo's Seven Doors include one with an integrated wall light and lampshade and another that turns a corner. The Hang model has a hidden magnetic layer that enables you to stick on and rearrange coordinated wooden planters, trays and storage compartments. The Baby incorporates a tiny proportional toddler entranceway, and the Slide playfully references entrances that glide on tracks. Finally, a tessellated Kumiko door design adds striking detail, and the Wall version is overlaid with shelving and picture frames. Each of the artistic Seven Doors conceptually references past projects of Abe Kogyo. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.9/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 61% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Multi-purpose Doors:** Designers are creating doors that serve more than one function, revolutionizing the traditional entryway concept. - **Whimsical Home Features:** Home designers are exploring the integration of playful, unconventional elements into traditional interior design. - **Innovative Door Materials:** Designers are using new materials and experimenting with textures and finishes to create unique and eye-catching door designs. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate these unconventional door designs and multi-functional home features to create unique and playful spaces for homeowners. - **Construction Materials:** Manufacturers of construction materials can innovate their product lines by experimenting with new materials and finishes that can be used to create unique door designs. - **Lighting Design:** Lighting designers can collaborate with door manufacturers to create hybrid door designs that integrate lighting features and elements into the overall aesthetic. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Innovative Customizable Door Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/customizable-door-system.md) - [3D-Printed Door Gear](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ross-lovegroves-door-handles.md) - [Japanese-Inspired Cabinet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/veil-cabinets.md) - [Angled Concrete Forest Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/block-wall-house.md) - [Industrial Sculptural Door Wedges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/universal-door-wedge.md) - [Concrete Block-Formed Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blockwall-house.md) - [Intertwined Forest-Nestled Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hand-in-hand-house.md) - [Playful Apartment Makeovers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onda-apartment.md) - [Minimal Japanese Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-kyobate.md)
