# Lunar Domino Sets This Set of Dominoes Replaces Small Dots with Moon Phases By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2014-07-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dominoes References: [betterlivingthroughdesign](http://www.betterlivingthroughdesign.com/accessories/moon-dominoes/) & [fredericksandmae.myshopify](http://fredericksandmae.myshopify.com/collections/war-games/products/moon-dominos) These unusual Moon Dominoes are black and white, as well as rectangular in shape, but they are very different looking from a conventional domino. The set by [Fredericks & Mae](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tinned-fish) is made from painted wood, but instead of painting on a series of small dots, the set uses silkscreened images of the different [phases of the moon](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-series). The $80 [domino set](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pips) is an unconventional twist to an age-old game, although it still can be played in the same way. However, it might take some keen observation skills to tell some of those sliver-thin crescents apart. Even so, one of the best things about dominoes is that if playing an actual game fails, you can still stack them on end and topple them over. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.9/10 - Popularity: 10% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Moon-inspired Board Games:** The use of moon phases in board games creates a niche market for lunar-themed game sets. - **Silkscreened Gaming Accessories:** Silkscreen printing can add an artistic element to gaming accessories beyond typical painted patterns. - **Decorative Game Sets:** Game sets can be functional and decorative pieces, creating opportunities for designers to create unique game concepts. ### Where This Applies - **Toy Industry:** Incorporating artistic and unconventional elements into classic board games can revitalize consumer interest in the toy industry. - **Gaming Accessories Industry:** The use of unique printing techniques can provide a competitive edge in the gaming accessories industry for manufacturers. - **Home Decor Industry:** Game sets can serve as functional and aesthetically-pleasing home decor pieces in the home decor industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Lunar-Inspired Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-side-table.md) - [Domino-Inspired Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/domino-pendant.md) - [Luxury Game Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxury-board-game.md) - [Creamy Moon-Viewing Pizzas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tsukimi-pizza.md) - [Redefined Sculptural Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/another-kingdom.md) - [Sculptural Lunar Lighting Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moonsetter-floor-lamp.md) - [Textured Moon-Inspired Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-phase-lamp.md) - [Spaced-Themed LED Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-room.md) - [Moon-Inspired Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lua.md)
