Now however, scientists from the [University of Adelaide](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drug-tracker) are taking things to a whole new level by developing a laser diagnostic instrument -- inspired by dogs' noses -- that can [screen human's breath samples](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/double-dog-dare). This dog's nose-inspired invention has a lot of potential as it could guarantee instant results at high accuracy, while screening for different things simultaneously. A working prototype is expected to be ready in two to three years and a market-ready product in three to five. This product truly could shake up the world of [medical diagnostics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/health-acoustic-representations) whilst also offering applications in other areas such as trace gas-measurement. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 21% | Activity: 22% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Pets](https://www.trendhunter.com/pets) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Instant Breath Screening:** This trend could revolutionize medical diagnostics by providing instant and accurate results through screening breath samples. - **Multifunctional Diagnostic Tools:** This trend opens opportunities to develop diagnostic instruments that can screen for multiple conditions simultaneously, improving efficiency and effectiveness. - **Biomimetic Technology:** This trend showcases the potential of biomimicry in developing innovative tools inspired by nature, such as the dog's nose, for various applications. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Medical Diagnostics:** The medical diagnostics industry could benefit from this innovation by incorporating instant breath screening into their diagnostic processes, improving patient care and efficiency. - **Biotechnology:** The biotechnology industry can explore the development of multifunctional diagnostic tools inspired by nature, leading to advancements in disease detection and research. - **Environmental Monitoring:** The environmental monitoring industry could leverage biomimetic technology to create sensors that detect trace gases and pollutants, contributing to improved air quality control. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Scent-Detecting Robot Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sniff-robot.md) - [Dog-Inspired Surveillance Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robot-dog-concept.md) - [Virus-Detecting Breathalyzers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/virusdetecting-breathalyzer.md) - [Robotic Smell Integrations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robotic-smell.md) - [Pet Diagnostic Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fompet.md) - [Vet-Approved Screening Tests](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oncotect.md) - [Noninvasive Breathing Trackers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/home-breath-analysis.md) - [Canine Health Screening Tests](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canine-health-screening-test.md) - [Smart Pet Thermometers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drpetcare-smart-thermometer.md)
