# Virtual Document Shredders 'Shredo' Permanently Erases Sensitive Documents By Joey Haar | Published 2016-07-18 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/document-shredder References: [producthunt](https://www.producthunt.com/tech/shredo) & [mymixapps](http://mymixapps.com/shredo?ref=producthunt) Sending a document to the trashcan and then clicking "Empty Trash" gives users the impression that their documents have been put through a virtual document shredder and deleted forever, but this is not the case. Though the average user wouldn't be able to find those documents, the data can still be retrieved if a cybersecurity expert has the will to find it. The Shredo app, though, is a virtual document shredder that gets the job done just like a paper shredder in real life, turning data into a slurry of nonsensical bits and bytes. After installing Shredo, its drag-and-drop interface works just like the trash bin. However, Shredo offers three tiers of deletion that balance speed and security: one-pass, seven-pass and 35-pass. These tiers refer to the amount of "passes" that the erasure software makes over the documents in question, with each pass more thoroughly jumbling the data beyond repair. With [online security](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/secret-photo-vault) coming to the fore in many areas of the public domain, Shredo capitalizes on users' desire for [digital privacy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/in-my-pocket). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 60% | Activity: 51% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Computers](https://www.trendhunter.com/computers) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Data Destruction:** Shredo demonstrates the increasing demand for effective digital document shredding to protect sensitive information. - **Cybersecurity Enhancement:** The rise of Shredo highlights the need for innovative solutions to ensure thorough and permanent deletion of data, addressing cybersecurity vulnerabilities. - **Privacy Protection:** Shredo taps into the growing concern for digital privacy, catering to users' desire for secure deletion of sensitive documents. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Data Security:** Shredo disrupts the data security industry by offering a virtual document shredder that securely deletes sensitive information. - **Cybersecurity:** Shredo presents an opportunity for the cybersecurity industry to innovate and develop advanced solutions for permanent data deletion. - **Digital Privacy:** Shredo addresses the digital privacy industry's need for effective tools that guarantee the permanent erasure of confidential documents. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Digital Document Managers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folio-wallet-app.md) - [Data Redaction Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-eraser.md) - [Online Privacy Services](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deleteme.md) - [Hyper-Personalized Workout Training Apps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shred-app.md) - [Encrypted Text Editors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/untitled-secures.md) - [Private Video Sharing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/video-sharing1.md) - [Secure Screen Sharing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/safe-screen.md) - [AI Fitness Coaches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shred.md) - [Photo Cleanup Assistants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swipe2delete.md)
