# Multifunctional Tablet Platters The Dock Tray by Alain Berteau Charges Devices and Stores Objects By Meghan Young | Published 2013-05-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dock-tray References: [fancy](http://fancy.com/things/454830370127354953/Objekten-Dock-Tray) & [objekten](http://www.objekten.com/products/dock-tray) The Dock Tray provides a handy place to store and charge one's tablet, as well as other knick knacks that might be lying around the office, bedroom and any other space a person may like to rest their device. A simple [wooden platter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/track-concept), the Dock Tray boasts a lip that props up the tablet in either portrait or landscape positions. The tray is deep enough to hold notepads, cords and other small objects. Designed by Belgium-based Alain Berteau, the Dock Tray is beautifully minimalist, which matches the look of the [iPad](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maghub-3) in particular perfectly. Interestingly, the tablet can become a sort of lid when laid flat over the tray. The Dock Tray was recently presented at the [International Contemporary Furniture Fair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/biennale-svizzera-del-territorio) in New York City this year. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.7/10 - Popularity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Charging Tray:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating versatile charging trays that can hold multiple devices and store small objects. - **Minimalist Design:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in designing sleek and minimalist charging trays that complement the aesthetic of modern devices. - **Multifunctional Accessories:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in developing multifunctional accessories that combine charging capabilities with storage solutions for personal devices. ### Where This Applies - **Technology:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the technology industry to create innovative charging trays that enhance the user experience of devices. - **Home Decor:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the home decor industry to design stylish and functional charging trays that seamlessly integrate into modern interiors. - **Furniture:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the furniture industry to incorporate charging trays into various pieces of furniture, providing convenient charging solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Design-Conscious Tech Docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magsafe-trio.md) - [Floating Monitor-Mounted Tech Docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/line-linestand.md) - [Verstaile Tablet Docking Stations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maghub-3.md) - [Three-in-One Tablet Hubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kolude-stand.md) - [Shifting Orientation Smartphone Docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smartphone-stand-charger.md) - [Decorative Device Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tricharge-wireless-charger-concept.md) - [Tech-Charging Valet Trays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/courant-mag3.md) - [Illuminated Tech Dock Chargers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nanoleaf-pegboard-desk-dock.md) - [Port-Packed Technology Docks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dock-stand.md)
