# Experimental Tattoo Instruments Dmitry Morozov Created a Body-Reading Instrument By Davina Sinnatamby | Published 2014-03-18 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dmitry-morozov References: [thecreatorsproject.vice](http://thecreatorsproject.vice.com/blog/artist-turns-tattoo-into-an-experimental-instrument) & [synthwise](http://synthwise.com/vtol-reading-my-body-tattoo-scanning-synthesizer/2014/03/17) Russian artist Dmitry Morozov, also known as ::vtol::, made an instrument that can read tattoos like a musical score. The sound-controlling device is made up of arduino nano, a metal railing, [hand controllers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roli-airwave) and a black line sensor which is on the tattoo. The device is moved across his arm with a stepper motor to make sounds. The artist also used a [Nintendo](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-modretro-m64) [Wii](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/epic-mickey-rebrushed) controller to add more sounds. The special tattoo was designed to have the right amount of time slots between the sensors. The device’s speed can be controlled, which can then create rhythms. The whole project, called ‘Reading My Body,’ has been on display but has still not been taken to a tattoo shop. This makes me wonder what other tattoos would sound like. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.4/10 - Popularity: 88% | Activity: 96% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Musical Tattoo Instruments:** Tattoos are no longer just visual expressions, but now have the potential to also be audible through the use of sound-controlling instruments. - **Body Reading Technology:** Technology has advanced to the point where tattoos can be read and interpreted through digital means, opening up a new market for body reading devices. - **Personalized Sound Art:** The use of sound-controlling instruments on tattoos creates unique and personalized pieces of art that can be displayed in galleries and exhibitions. ### Who This Affects Most - **Tattoo Industry:** Tattoo artists and shops can diversify their services by offering sound-controlling instruments that make tattoos not only a visual but an audible experience. - **Music Industry:** Musicians can collaborate with tattoo artists in a new form of audio-visual expression, creating a new genre of music that incorporates tattoos as instruments. - **Technology Industry:** Advanced technology can be further integrated into the tattoo industry through the creation of more complex and sophisticated body-reading devices that can interpret tattoos as a medium for data visualization. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [AI-Powered Tattoo Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blackdot-device.md) - [Palm-Sized Tattoo Printers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/temporary-tattoo-device.md) - [Custom Tattoo Design Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-tattoo-generator1.md) - [Progressive Rewritable Tattoos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magic-ink.md) - [Custom Tattoo Generators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-tattoo-creator.md) - [Custom Tattoo Designers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-tattoo-generator2.md) - [AI Tattoo Designers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tattoo-maker-ai.md) - [Online Tattoo Art Marketplaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blackdot.md) - [AI-Powered Tattoo Printers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/imprintu.md)
