The creations are ominous-looking and awesome, filtering fiery flames through Darth Vader's eyes, nose and grated mouth. To create these DIY wood stoves, Dodson uses empty gas canisters from his classes. To transform these pieces of junk into functional pieces of art, he uses a sledge hammer, lacquer and an array of tools in his welding rig. In addition to [Star Wars-themed stoves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-wars-tray), he has also cooked up Batman, Ironman and Terminator versions. If roasting marshmallows off a Stormtrooper's glowing eyeball sounds like fun, Alex Dodson sells and ships his creations as far as Australia. If your handy skills are up to par, follow Dodson's lead and try building your very own [sci-fi wood-burning stove](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woodburning-appliance). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.9/10 - Popularity: 66% | Activity: 72% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Repurposed DIY Wood Stoves:** Repurposing of old materials to make wood stoves is a disruptive innovation opportunity for sustainable home heating solutions. - **Pop Culture Themed Wood Stoves:** Creating wood stoves inspired by popular movies or characters can be a disruptive innovation opportunity for artists and designers to cater to fandoms and enthusiasts. - **DIY Welding Rigs:** Developing DIY welding rigs can be a disruptive innovation opportunity for hobbyists and DIY enthusiasts to create innovative, functional pieces of art. ### Who This Affects Most - **Renewable Energy:** The renewable energy industry can explore using repurposed materials to create DIY wood stoves and other sustainable heating solutions. - **Pop Culture Merchandising:** The pop culture merchandising industry can explore creating unique wood stoves inspired by popular movies or characters to offer fans and enthusiasts another type of merchandise. - **DIY and Handicrafts:** The DIY and handicrafts industry can explore developing DIY welding rigs and equipment optimised for creating unique, functional pieces of art and home heating solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Charitable Flat-Packed Cooking Stoves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fire-for-life.md) - [Collapsible Wood-Burning Stoves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leikki-camping-stove.md) - [Mini Smoke-Free Camper Stoves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/biolite-ecozoom-dura.md) - [Insulated Multi-Fuel Outdoor Stoves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/biolite-ecozoom-versa.md) - [Portable Wood-Powered Pizza Ovens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pi.md) - [Portable Smokeless Fire Pits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bondstove-fire-pit.md) - [DIY Life-Size Tanks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nd-woodworking-art.md) - [Freestanding Backyard Pizza Ovens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stadler-outdoor-pizza-oven.md) - [Stovetop-Friendly Oven Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-oven-concept.md)
