# Fabric-Wrapped Shelves These DIY Shelves Upcycle Old Decor Pieces with Textile By M | Published 2014-06-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diy-shelves References: [poppytalk](http://www.poppytalk.com/2014/06/diy-fabric-wrapped-shelves.html) & [poppytalk](http://www.poppytalk.com) If you're looking for a cost-effective project to do to add a bit more color to your home, these DIY shelves are a great way to upcycle an unused shelving unit into a technicolor decor piece using fun textiles. These fun fabric-wrapped mini shelves are a great way to add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral home. Pick up several yards of a fabric of your choice in a color scheme that will complement your decor. After cutting the fabric into long rectangular stripes, you can wrap the textile strips around your shelving units with Mod Podge glue. It's best to use a hard plastic surface, like a popsicle stick, to squeeze out any air between the shelf and the fabric strips before the glue dries. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 33% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 10% men, 90% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Textile Upcycling:** Opportunity for businesses to create DIY products and kits that repurpose textiles into colorful decor pieces. - **Colorful Home Decor:** Opportunity for businesses to offer unique, fabric-wrapped shelves and other colorful home accessories. - **DIY Home Projects:** Opportunity for businesses to provide resources, tutorials, and materials for DIY enthusiasts looking to personalize their homes. ### Who This Affects Most - **Craft and Hobby:** Craft supply stores and online platforms can cater to the growing demand for textile upcycling products and materials. - **Home Decor:** Home decor retailers can capitalize on the trend by offering fabric-wrapped shelves and other colorful decor pieces. - **DIY Education:** Online platforms and workshops can provide DIY enthusiasts with the knowledge and skills to create their own fabric-wrapped shelves and other personalized home projects. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Room-Dividing Bookshelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frquence-shelf.md) - [Modular Configuration Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/repisa-01.md) - [Discreet Folding Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-shelf.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Versatile Modern Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/utility-shelf.md) - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Modular Contemporary Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qurv.md) - [Modular Organized Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unit-shelving-system.md)
