# Dissected Design Photos These Images Prove That a Whole is Only as Good as the Sum of the Parts By Michael Baxter | Published 2014-01-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dissected-photo References: [booooooom](http://www.booooooom.com/2014/01/09/dissected-photographs-artist-michael-mapes/) & [room62](http://room62.com/) These dissected photos will leave you amazed -- and probably scratching your head. Artist Michael Mapes creates beautiful pieces by dissecting the images into parts and using different materials. After getting over my sheer amazement the first time I looked at this, I was reminded of the television show Art Attack. I love Art Attack but these images are just so [intricate and complex](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/intricate-jigsaw-puzzle) that I don't feel Art Attack is a just comparison. The images themselves make up Victorian looking photos and if they were one single image, they would definitely be considered a [piece of fine art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/painting-exhibition). The images as they stand now look to have millions of pieces all perfectly and meticulously arranged so as to create the image that we get to see. I can't even begin to think of how long this must have taken and the patience needed to create these dissected photos. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 78% | Activity: 58% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Dissected Artwork Trend:** Opportunities for artists to experiment with unusual materials and unique ways of creating art by dissecting and manipulating images and objects. - **Intricate Craftsmanship Trend:** Opportunities for artisans to showcase their skills and create intricate pieces that require patience and attention to detail. - **Interactive Art Trend:** Opportunities for artists to create engaging and interactive art that allows viewers to explore the various components and appreciate the intricacy of the work. ### Where This Applies - **Fine Arts:** Artists and galleries can embrace the dissected artwork trend and showcase unique and innovative pieces that stand out in the art world. - **Craft Industry:** Artisans and craftsmen can explore the intricate craftsmanship trend and create beautiful and unique pieces that appeal to a wide range of customers. - **Museums and Exhibitions:** Museums and exhibitions can capitalize on the interactive art trend and create engaging exhibits that allow visitors to interact and experience the art in new and exciting ways. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [AI-Generated Real-World Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world.md) - [Sculptural Paper Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti.md) - [Exploded Car Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/Porsche-911-carrera.md) - [Geometric Wooden Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aleph-geddis.md) - [Milled Three-Dimensional Puzzle Vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ceramic-bodies.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Intersecting Dimensional Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diorama.md) - [Laser-Cut Urban Artistry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laser-cut-city-maps.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md)
