# Weather-Revealing Mirrors This Mirror Displays Weather Information in Real Time By Katherine Pendrill | Published 2015-12-30 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/displays-weather-information References: [dailydot](http://www.dailydot.com/technology/magic-mirror-raspberry-pi-diy/) & [blog.dylanjpierce](http://blog.dylanjpierce.com/raspberrypi/magicmirror/tutorial/2015/12/27/build-a-magic-mirror.html) Web designer Dylan Pierce recently created a mirror that displays weather information in real time. When getting ready for the day, most of us check the [weather forecast](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rainy-skies) and dress accordingly. This mirror removes the hassle of checking the weather by providing you with a [real time forecast](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brzzy). Pierce built his weather-forcasting mirror out of a double-sided acrylic mirror and the Raspberry Pi programming kit. Pierce then installed a computer behind the mirror to serve as a kiosk for relaying information through the mirror. After installing an open-source web browser called Chromium, Pierce was able to create a webpage that displays weather information in real time. As a result, the mirror reveals information such as the time, date, forecast and even an animated weather icon. Although Pierce only designed one version of the mirror, he has released a tutorial that explains how others can make their own version of the device. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 60% | Activity: 72% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Real-time Display Devices:** Opportunity for companies to create useful and interactive devices with real-time data displays, such as mirrors and other everyday objects that could provide value to customers. - **Smart Home Integration:** There is a growing demand for smart home integration and this technology offers an opportunity for companies to develop similar gadgets that can provide personalized information and make everyday tasks more efficient. - **Internet of Things (iot):** The development of IoT technology will have a major impact on the way that people interact with everyday objects, providing an opportunity for companies to develop innovative products based on this technology. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Decor:** Home decor companies have an opportunity to incorporate weather forecasting information into their products in creative ways that will offer utility to customers. - **Technology:** Technology companies can invest in developing smart devices and internet-connected gadgets that can provide value to customers, such as the weather-forecasting mirror developed by Dylan Pierce. - **Smart Home:** The smart home industry can benefit from incorporating weather updates and other real-time data displays into their products, making them even more useful and convenient for consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [AI-Powered Styling Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heymirror-smart-dressing-mirror.md) - [Gamified Weather Visuals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mineweather.md) - [Interactive Beauty Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/samsung-micro-led-beauty-mirror.md) - [Retro Music Device-Inspired Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drought.md) - [Mental-Health Smart Mirror Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mio-smart-mirror.md) - [Nostalgic Music-Inspired Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/imirror.md) - [Ambient Weather Visuals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/weather-screen.md) - [Ailment-Identifying Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anura-magicmirror.md) - [Low Resolution Weather Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tidbyt.md)
