[Disneyland](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/waffle-cone-shot) is an icon — the chain of resorts all over the world have spread joy to children for decades — but it all started with a single Disneyland map. That original artifact of the resort's history had been squirreled away for nearly 60 years, but it recently sold at auction for a staggering $708,000, a testament to the intense emotional connection that generations of people have with Disneyland.

When Walt Disney first conceived of Disneyland in 1953, he had one of his artists draw a map that he used to help sell the idea to secure funding from investors at [ABC](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bape-x-crocs). Two years later, the first Disneyland was built in Anaheim, California.

This cartographic piece of history was sold at the Van Eaton auction house in LA after a former Disney employee who was given it decided to offer the map to the public.
