The skate decks use a surrealist approach that show the whimsical Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy but with a monochromatic style that highlights a strikingly dark twist on the beloved cartoons. Led by the art direction of French designer, Nicolas Obery who uses these skate decks as an extension on his art series Fantasmagorik. The series focuses on using this approach of surrealism for digital designs which has now transferred over to create bold and dark skate decks that outline an approach seldom seen on these traditionally eccentric and comical characters. The Triptych FANTASMALAND Skate Decks have a timeless design that reshapes the fantasy world of Disney into the growing market of luxury skate decks. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.0/10 - Popularity: 79% | Activity: 93% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Surrealist Skate Decks:** There is an opportunity to disrupt the skateboarding industry by incorporating surrealistic designs into deck artwork. - **Monochromatic Disney Art:** The trend of creating monochromatic art with a dark twist on beloved characters can be a disruptive innovation for the art and illustration industry. - **Luxury Skate Decks:** The growing market for luxury skate decks presents an opportunity for disruptive innovation by combining high-end design with functional skateboarding products. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Skateboarding:** There is a disruptive innovation opportunity within the skateboarding industry to incorporate surrealistic designs into deck artwork. - **Art and Illustration:** The trend of creating monochromatic art with a dark twist on beloved characters presents a disruptive innovation opportunity within the art and illustration industry. - **Luxury Goods:** The growing market for luxury skate decks presents an opportunity for disruptive innovation within the luxury goods industry by combining high-end design with functional skateboarding products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Psychedelic Skateboard Decks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-psychedelia.md) - [Pop Art Skateboard Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-skateroom-1.md) - [Iconic Pop Art Skateboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skateroom-x-andy-warhol-foundation.md) - [Artful Skateboard Deck Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kraftwerk-collection.md) - [Luxe Fashion House Skateboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fendi-skateboard.md) - [Surrealist Shopping Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dreams-is.md) - [Graphic Skate Sneakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vans-otw-x-undercover.md) - [Sleek Punk Skate Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zero-skateboards.md) - [Magician-Designed Playing Cards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mystery-playing-cards.md)
