# Dish-Drying Planters Clever Dish Drainer Dries Plates and Waters Plants By Katie Cordrey | Published 2010-02-04 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dish-drainer References: [coroflot](http://www.coroflot.com/public/individual_details.asp?individual_id=34086) This [dish drainer](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spaceefficient-drying) doubles as a [plant watering device](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leafypod) and is a good example of Erdem Selek’s belief that sustainable design is an outcome of the search for efficiency. Place wet dishes on the rack to dry and the drips fall into the plant or into the [water reservoir tray](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/planto) so the plants can drink. The design will hold dishes and utensils from two place settings. Originally from Denizli, Turkey, Erdem Selek holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Master of Science degree in Product Design and currently lectures on industrial design principles at Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 44% | Activity: 78% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sustainable-design Dish Drainers:** Opportunities for designing new dish drainer models that save water and promote eco-friendly practices - **Plant-based Kitchen Accessories:** Creating kitchen accessories like planters that can multitask and save space - **Eco-conscious Housewares:** Increasing production of home goods that embrace sustainability and environmentally-friendly principles ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Kitchenware:** Opportunities for designing dish drying planters and other kitchen items that promote sustainability and eco-friendliness - **Home Decor:** Creating multitasking home accessories that can function as kitchen storage and planters - **Sustainability:** Increasing efforts to promote sustainability through sustainable design ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Water Catch-Integrated Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hemisphere.md) - [Flat-Packed Sleek Dish Racks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aurea.md) - [Self-Watering Desk Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/posha.md) - [Smart Self-Watering Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tendril-1.md) - [Self-Watering Compact Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/patella-crescenda.md) - [Naturalistic Self-Watering Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apot-selfwatering-planter.md) - [Two-in-One Plant Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/selfwatering-planter-propagation-station.md) - [Uniquely Shaped Self-Watering Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/self-watering-plant-house.md) - [Compact Portable Dish Racks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dish-rack-2.md)
