# Morphing Couch Cushions The Disfatto Collection Converts Sofa Pillows into Comforters By Meghan Young | Published 2012-03-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/disfatto-collection References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2012/03/08/disfatto-collection-by-denis-guidone-for-d3co/) & [d3co.it](http://www.d3co.it/files/htm/ita/prodotti/disfatto.html) At first glance, the Disfatto Collection looks like it is comprised of typical couches that have simply been given a [cute, comfortable and contemporary facelift](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reimagined-everyday-sofa). Within its cushions, however, lies a clever tweak that turns this 'couch' into a [multifunctional piece of furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hulala-home-elitenest). The back-supporting pillows can be converted into a comforter that, in turn, converts the couch into a bed. Hence the reason the collection was dubbed 'Disfatto,' which means 'undone' in Italian. Created by Milan-based designer Denis Guidone for Italian manufacturer D3CO, the Disfatto Collection offers a fun alternative to [traditional sofa beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metamorphosis-collection-2). According to D3CO, "What characterizes it is a basic structure on which rests a shape with soft lines, and inviting atmosphere that undermines the principles of ergonomics and praises the imperfection." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.2/10 - Popularity: 73% | Activity: 76% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Multifunctional Furniture:** Designing furniture with clever tweaks that add multifunctionality, like couch cushions that convert into comforters, offers a disruptive innovation opportunity for furniture manufacturers to appeal to consumers who prioritize space-saving solutions. - **Contemporary Comfort:** Blending contemporary design with comfortable and inviting atmospheres, as seen in the Disfatto Collection, offers a disruptive innovation opportunity for furniture manufacturers to appeal to consumers who want modern, yet comfortable and inviting furniture. - **Embracing Imperfection:** Creating furniture that embraces imperfection by prioritizing soft lines and inviting atmospheres, as seen in the Disfatto Collection, offers a disruptive innovation opportunity for furniture manufacturers to appeal to consumers who prioritize unique and unconventional design elements. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can offer disruptive innovation in the form of multifunctional pieces, contemporary comfort design, and embracing imperfection to appeal to consumers seeking modern and convenient furniture solutions. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate multifunctional pieces, contemporary comfort design, and embracing imperfection to create unique and unconventional spaces for clients seeking modern and convenient design solutions. - **Home Decor:** Home decor retailers can offer disruptive innovation in the form of multifunctional pieces, contemporary comfort design, and embracing imperfection to appeal to consumers seeking modern and convenient home decor solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Interchangeable Cushion Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/morfius-modular-furniture.md) - [Modular Eco-Sourced Cozy Couches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-transformer-couch.md) - [Oblong Color-Blocked Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meritalia-morphologica-collection.md) - [Versatile Modular Couches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transformer-couch-20.md) - [Compact Collapsing Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acordion-modular-sofa.md) - [Enveloping Sofa Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/perron-pillo.md) - [Ultra-Relaxed Sofa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-perron-pillo.md) - [Rippled Modular Furniture Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puffa-furniture.md) - [Cloud-Like Modular Sofa Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pillo-sofa.md)
