Researchers at Loughborough University have developed a new truck cab design -- dubbed the Direct Vision -- that would offer truck drivers a better view of the road around them, potentially lowering collisions and saving the lives of pedestrians and [cyclists](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/livall-ai-visual-smart-helmet). The researchers say this redesigned cab would offer a 50% increase in the front and side fields of view compared to traditional cabs.

The increased visibility is accomplished thanks to an 80 cm-long cab with a rounder nose, larger glazed areas, a smaller dashboard and a lower seated position for the driver. Put together, these features contrive to reduce the [blind spots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/highrisk-roadway) responsible for many accidents.

The Direct Vision truck cab design now faces the challenge of convincing companies that switching to these truck cab designs is worth the associated cost.
