Designed by Mauricio Sanin and Kelly Durango of the [MOAK Studio](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-coffee-machine), the lamp highlights a [coin-operated functionality](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tap-tap-table-lamp) that will reward the user with light for each piece of currency they put in. This creates an instant connection for the user that illumination comes at a cost and that it isn't a given to ensure that they stay mindful of the simple yet essential items around them. The 'Dina Lamp' highlights an altruistic design that could also be used as a way to support [social good endeavors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iggy-lamp); the coins collected within could be donated rather than re-pocketed to help those who don't have ready access to essentials. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 59% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Coin-operated Lighting:** Coin-operated lighting systems are an innovation opportunity, complementing existing lighting systems and enabling precise energy usage monitoring. - **Mindful Consumption:** The trend of creating cost-based illumination experiences will promote mindful consumption of energy and resources while providing customers an interactive experience. - **Altruistic Design:** The trend of building products for social good provides an opportunity to integrate coin-operated lighting as both a source of legitimacy and a stepping stone towards increasing awareness and promoting sustainable production. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design:** The lighting industry will benefit from exploring novel ways of incorporating coin-operated lighting designs in their products to promote mindful consumption and cost-based illumination experiences. - **Social Entrepreneurship:** Coin-operated lighting can be used to collect funds for social good endeavors, making this innovation suitable for use in social enterprises. - **Sustainability:** The technology behind coin-operated lighting could be applied to promote sustainable production in various industries that rely on synthetic lighting by creating cost-based illumination experiences to promote mindful consumption. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md) - [Interactive Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tangent-lamp.md) - [Motivating Desktop Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seesaw-lamp.md) - [Malleable Connected Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pofu-lamp.md) - [Face Mask-Made Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anonymlux-lamp.md) - [Money Plant-Inspired Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pilea-lamp.md) - [Dripping Faucet-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-light-fixture.md) - [Task-Managing Dynamic Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fall-lamp-concept.md) - [Inflatable Mood Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blow-lamp.md)
