# Self-Destruction Photography The Despair by Daniel Grizelj Series Sheds Light on Depression By Meghan Young | Published 2011-08-21 | Lifestyle Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/despair-by-daniel-grizelj References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/DESPAIR/1982919) & [danielgrizelj](http://www.danielgrizelj.com) Although it may be hard to lay eyes on self-destructing individuals such as those present in the photo series titled Despair by Daniel Grizelj, sometimes it is necessary to shed light on difficult subject matter. By doing so, it shows people that depression is not that uncommon, nor does it have to be the end-all, be-all of certain situations. Even the explanation that accompanies the photo series Despair by Daniel Grizelj implies just this: "In images that looks into the abyss of human despair, there is the horrifying suggestion that these characters may not be grotesque exceptions, but may in fact be part of the mainstream of humanity." The photo series, highly stylized as it might be in [color and composition](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/profiles-in-color), truly captures this sad truth. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 95% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Health](https://www.trendhunter.com/health) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Mental Health Awareness:** Opportunity to develop innovative solutions for raising awareness and understanding of mental health issues. - **Artistic Expression:** Opportunity to explore new forms of visual storytelling and emotional expression through photography and other mediums. - **Destigmatizing Depression:** Opportunity to challenge societal stigmas surrounding depression and promote empathy and support for those experiencing it. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Mental Health:** Opportunity for mental health organizations and professionals to incorporate creative approaches into their awareness and treatment strategies. - **Art and Entertainment:** Opportunity for artists, photographers, and filmmakers to use their platforms to address mental health issues and promote dialogue. - **Social Activism:** Opportunity for social activists and advocacy groups to push for destigmatization of depression and improved access to mental health resources. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Explosion-Damaged Sculpture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-into-darkness.md) - [Emotional Short Films](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/johnson-johnson.md) - [Destructive Nature Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/keita-miyazaki.md) - [Apocalypse Post Pandemic Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-urban-art.md) - [Photography Project Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/still-life-1.md) - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md) - [Upcycled Object Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nendo-and-daniel-arsham.md) - [Blurry Abstract Photography Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-allusion.md) - [Dramatic Doomsday Bunker Images](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alastair-philip-wiper.md)
