# Squeeze Pump Lamps The Olab Desktop Lamp is Controlled By a Rubber Hand Pump By Jen Chae | Published 2013-07-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desktop-lamp References: [gregoiredelafforest](http://www.gregoiredelafforest.com) This [minimalist desktop lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/delite-20) is controlled by a [squeezable pump](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bloomlight-s-lamp), which is often seen on horns and even classic perfume bottles. The design, titled Olab, signifies that flickering on a light is an exciting blast. French artist Grégoire de Lafforest intended to portray a deeper meaning. The skeletal frame of the lamp holds within it a giant [balloon-shaped bulb](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tuloa). The artistic concept here is that whenever you squeeze the rubber pump, the bulb feels the pressure and tries to escape its frame. The lamp is made of plywood, lacquered steel and blown glass. From the outside, the lamp immaculately conceals any type of electrical work, which makes it all the more intriguing, fascinating, mysterious and magical. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.4/10 - Popularity: 75% | Activity: 79% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Squeeze Pump Control:** The integration of squeeze pump controls in products offers a unique and interactive user experience. - **Minimalist Design:** The use of minimalist designs in everyday products creates a sleek and modern aesthetic. - **Conceptual Art Lighting:** The combination of art and functionality in lighting design opens up new possibilities for creative expression. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can adopt squeeze pump controls to create innovative and user-friendly lighting solutions. - **Industrial Design:** The trend of minimalist design presents opportunities for industrial designers to create visually appealing and functional products in various industries. - **Art and Design:** The integration of conceptual art in lighting design offers potential for collaboration between artists and designers to create unique and immersive experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Inflatable Colorful Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/squeeze-inflatable-lamp.md) - [Interactive Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tap-tap-table-lamp.md) - [Air Balloon-Inspired Lamp Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-balloon-lamp.md) - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md) - [Ambient Aesthetically Pleasing Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pofu.md) - [Adjustable Sculptural Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ovo-lamp.md) - [Malleable Connected Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pofu-lamp.md) - [Touch-Enhanced Glass Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bolita.md) - [Whimsical Glass Bubbled Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peeka.md)
