# Transparent Hillside Cottages Desai Chia Architecture's LM Guest House Reveals Surrounding Views By Jana Pijak | Published 2016-02-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/desai-chia-architecture References: [archiscene.net](http://www.archiscene.net/residential/lm-guest-house/) & [desaichia](http://www.desaichia.com) The LM Guest House project by [Desai Chia Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clinton-corners) blends rustic and contemporary design details. Revealing stunning views of its surrounding landscape, the [hillside residence](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-the-slope) is the opposite of a traditional country home. While the majority of its facade is covered with straight [glass panels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tranquil-abiding) -- allowing for natural light penetration throughout the day -- its wood framing is kept sleek and simple rather than raw and jagged. The New York structure boasts a rectangular shape and resembles a glass box that is only accented with minimal interior partitions. Though mostly an open concept space, this Desai Chia Architecture residence also features private areas that are strategically surrounded by a glass shell. This shell envelopes separate rooms while revealing the beauty of the great outdoors. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 86% | Activity: 84% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Transparent Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Exploring new design possibilities that combine transparency and contemporary aesthetics. - **Blending Rustic and Contemporary Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Creating unique architectural styles that seamlessly mix traditional and modern elements. - **Maximizing Natural Light:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Developing innovative techniques to maximize the use of natural light in building design. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introducing sustainable and visually stunning architectural designs. - **Construction:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Adopting new construction methods and materials to achieve a blend of rustic and contemporary aesthetics. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporating glass and transparent elements into interior spaces to create a sense of openness and connection with the surrounding environment. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Faceted Cedar Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-house-on-a-hill.md) - [Glass Philosophical Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-ridge.md) - [Hilltop Modern Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-cloud-house.md) - [Thoughtful Lakeside Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lakeside-living.md) - [Round Glass-Wrapped Lakeside House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-encoique.md) - [Asian Material Suburban Residents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-ridge-house.md) - [Stepped Hillside Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/b2a-architects.md) - [Glass-Lined Corridor Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tranquil-abiding.md) - [Forest Lantern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iside-home.md)
