# Heroic Light Paintings Photos By Dennis Calvert Are Dazzlingly Superhuman By Susan Keefe | Published 2011-09-22 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dennis-calvert References: [zeutch](http://www.zeutch.com/photo/light-paintings-by-dennis-calvert-27320) & [denniscalvert.net](http://www.denniscalvert.net/about.php) These [vibrant mind-bending photographs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/profiles-in-color) are the work of the Cullman-based photographer Dennis Calvert. He created these otherworldly images without the aid of digital manipulation. Calvert is fascinated by light, because according to him, "Light is the primary factor in our ability to interpret and define the universe." Thus, by capturing and [manipulating light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aura-collection-1), Calvert feels he is able to bend the rules of [space and time](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacetime-transformation-lamp). "Time is no longer linear." the artist explains. Like the date-hopping adventurers from your favorite novels or the superheroes you admired as a child, Calvert's subjects appear as a rag-tag group of heroes and villains, complete with the same calibre of style we have come to expect from a well-executed graphic novel. Dennis Calvert's images are awe-inspiring and engrossing. With little post production support to fall back on, these images are supernatural themselves. So, tell the X-Men to move over, because there's a new crop of heroes in town. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 96% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Photography](https://www.trendhunter.com/photography) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Vibrant Light Manipulation:** Opportunity to explore the use of light as a medium for creating captivating and mind-bending photographs. - **Non-digital Artistic Techniques:** Exploring the potential of creating awe-inspiring images without relying on digital manipulation, sparking creativity in the photography industry. - **Superhuman Aesthetics:** Developing a new style inspired by graphic novels and superheroes, pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling in art and photography. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Photography:** Incorporating non-digital techniques to create vibrant and supernatural photographs, offering a unique selling point in the photography industry. - **Art:** Exploring the use of light manipulation and non-digital techniques to create captivating and otherworldly art, attracting new audiences and collectors. - **Graphic Novels:** Inspired by superhero aesthetics and storytelling, creating a crossover between photography and graphic novels, offering a new visual experience for fans and readers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Festive Light Painting Techniques](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-painting-1.md) - [Illuminated Curtained Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible.md) - [Lightning-Inspired Artful Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bright-light-shining.md) - [Concept-Driven Public Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ivan-toth-depea.md) - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Life-Like 3D Canvases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lumino.md) - [Interactive Colorful Art Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-hockney-bigger-closer.md) - [Immersive Light Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spencer-finch.md) - [Wonderous Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/your-psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md)
