Deku is a new wooden furniture building system created by designer Takuto Ohta. The modular system is comprised of an array of [wooden planks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ile-modular-system) that can be fastened together by their pyramid-shaped edges. As a result, owners of the system can stack and build their own furniture by playing with different designs, creating anything from [coffee tables to benches and chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-table-and-chair).

Although [modular furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arca) is typically associated with pure functionality, Ohta brings a distinctly artistic flair to his system. The design of Deku was inspired by the stone piles that are found washed ashore on beaches and riverbanks. Because of this, Deku boasts a uniquely organic aesthetic. In addition, each wooden piece has been dressed with colorful masking tape, allowing users to customize their own furniture color palettes as well.
