‘Deep Green’ tidal turbines look like underwater kites fly up from the ocean floor, producing power beneath the ocean surface. Turbines are individually attached to a wing and rudder, which is then tethered to the ocean floor by several hundred feet of cable.

The Deep Green tethered kites are able to capture energy from [tidal currents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tidal-flight) ten times faster than the speed of the current stream and can generate [500 kilowatts of power](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wind-turbine-generator). It’s impressive output for a device with a 40’ wingspan--a size much smaller than other tidal-energy designs.
