# Robot Pool Sharks Deep Green Mathematically Masters Billiards By Brian G Randles | Published 2009-09-18 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deep-green-pool References: [techcrunch](http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/09/17/deep-green-the-pool-playing-robot/) & [deepgreenrobot.org](http://www.deepgreenrobot.org/) [Deep Green](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/Multi-robot-metal-printing) is a pool playing robot from Queens, New York. With a microchip on his shoulder and dreams no one can reprogram, this billiard ‘bot will take your money, find the square root of the winnings and then buy you a beer. I don’t know why I felt compelled to give this machine a rags-to-riches movie backstory, but there you go. Anyway, Deep Green was designed at the RCVLab at Queen’s University and is programmed to mathematically find the best way to make a shot. As the video shows, the robot is definitely good at what it does. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.2/10 - Popularity: 29% | Activity: 89% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [AI](https://www.trendhunter.com/ai) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Robotic Sports:** Developing robots for sports could revolutionize athletics and enhance player performance through advanced machine learning. - **Artificial Intelligence in Entertainment:** Integrating AI technology in entertainment activities could provide new levels of fun and engagement for customers and fans. - **Robotics for Gambling and Gaming:** The use of robotics in the gaming industry could automate certain tasks and create more engaging experiences for players. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Sports:** Adapting robotics and AI in sports training and competitions could lead to the discovery of new techniques and abilities. - **Entertainment:** The application of intelligent machines in entertainment venues or events could create new business opportunities and improve customer satisfaction. - **Gaming:** The advancement of robotics technology could lead to the development of more immersive and interactive gaming experiences that attract a wider audience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Intelligent Pool Cleaners](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/intelligent-pool-cleaner.md) - [Robotic Pool Cleaners](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aquasense-2-series.md) - [Self-Cleaning Pool Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beatbot-aquasense-x-ai-robotic-pool-cleaner.md) - [Sonar Technology Pool Cleaners](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pool-cleaner-robot.md) - [AI-Powered Pool Cleaning Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cordless-robotic-pool-cleaner.md) - [Bionic Dual-Vision Pool Cleaners](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bionic-dual-vision-pool-cleaner.md) - [3D Mapping Pool Cleaners](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wybot-s3.md) - [Swimming Pool Maintenance Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swimming-pool-maintenance.md) - [Ultrasonic Smart Pool Cleaners](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zima-pro.md)
