Co-written with Michael Blank and illustrated by Fanny Liem, the 32-page book follows Decoy as he scrambles to retrieve his lucky baseball before the ceremonial first pitch on Opening Day—mirroring a genuine moment when Decoy threw the first pitch at Dodger Stadium. Slated for release in February 2026, the story combines charm and emotional resonance. Proceeds from the sales will benefit animal rescue organizations, reinforcing Ohtani’s commitment to animal welfare. Available for preorder now, Decoy Saves Opening Day adds "author" to Ohtani’s résumé, extending his influence beyond the baseball field and into inspiring storytelling for children. The story not only celebrates the bond between Ohtani and his dog but also teaches young readers about perseverance and teamwork.
