# Decor As Art with Hidden Messages James Hopkins By Ayman | Published 2008-02-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/decor-art-hopkins References: [apartmenttherapy](http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/la/look/james-hopkins-decor-as-art-043087) British artist James Hopkins blurs the lines between decor and art with his [furniture artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/archetypes). He carefully constructs [installations with mundane everyday objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-objects-we-live-by), transforming them into artwork installations with hidden messages. The 'Love Seat' artwork for example is constructed from [four different chair designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immaterial-0001) that collectively spell LOVE, but can only seat three people. A hidden message for a threesome? "Even though my work often contains design elements, ironically they work in opposition to accommodating the body. My favourite part of the 'Love Seat' sculpture is the letter O because on that chair the seat is missing." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Art as Furniture:** Opportunities for art-centric furniture design and production. - **Hidden Message Art:** Creative possibilities for incorporating hidden messages in art installations and furniture pieces. - **Design Elements in Art:** Exploration of using design elements in art to challenge traditional notions of artistic expression. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** Reimagining furniture design with an emphasis on artistic expression and hidden meanings. - **Art Installations:** Incorporating hidden messages in large-scale art installations and public spaces. - **Interior Design:** Opportunities for blending art and decor in unique and unexpected ways within interior design. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Distorted Furniture Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/first-kiss-at-last-light.md) - [Wooden Identity Art Forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hughmanity.md) - [Dynamic Moving-Illusion Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moving-furniture.md) - [Sizable Chair Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chair-installation.md) - [Object Design-Explorative Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apartamento-secreto.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Performance Art Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bio-pop.md) - [Fantasy Sculptural Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chris-wolston.md) - [Artful Wooden Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knowledge-of-all-dark-things.md)
