# Stand-Up Funerals Angel Pantoja Medina's Body "Stood" At His Funeral By Alex Covert | Published 2008-08-21 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dead-guy-stands-for-his-own-funeral References: [yesbutnobutyes](http://www.yesbutnobutyes.com/archives/2008/08/creepiest_funer.html) I've heard of open caskets but... Angel Pantoja Medina (recently deceased) gives the saying 'dead man walking' new meaning. Seems the guy wanted to be propped up and "stand" at his own funeral. Here's to you, Angel. You got your wish. For his three-day wake, friends and family stopped by to pay Angel their last respects (and obviously, get a picture). **Implications** - Mourning is being revolutionized through stand-up funerals. Themed coffins and funerals are a related trend that supports this idea. Instead of dying like everyone else, people are ensuring that their death and funeral will be remembered as much as their life will be. This also reflects the broader theme that consumers are willing to spend more money on their funerals. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 89% | Activity: 99% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Bizarre](https://www.trendhunter.com/bizarre) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Stand-up Funerals:** Stand-up funerals are revolutionizing the mourning experience, offering a unique way for individuals to be remembered. - **Themed Coffins:** Themed coffins are an emerging trend in the funeral industry, allowing individuals to personalize their final resting place. - **Memorable Funerals:** The trend of memorable funerals reflects consumers' willingness to invest in creating lasting memories even after their death. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Funeral Services:** Funeral services industry can explore opportunities to cater to the demand for stand-up funerals and themed coffins. - **Event Planning:** Event planning industry can tap into the emerging trend of creating memorable and unique funeral experiences for clients. - **Personalization Services:** Personalization services industry can offer customized options for funeral arrangements, such as personalized coffins and themed funeral decorations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Design-Forward Funerary Urn Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/funerary-urn.md) - [Deep Sea Funerals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deep-sea-funeral.md) - [Life-Size Casket Coolers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casket-cooler.md) - [Philosopher-Neighbouring Burial Plots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/karl-marxs-tomb.md) - [3D-Printed Ecological Funeral Reefs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/resting-reefs.md) - [Biodegradable Burial Caskets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loop-biotech.md) - [Coffin-Shaped Beverage Containers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-casket-cooler.md) - [AI-Powered Virtual Memorials](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/virtual-memorials.md) - [Expandable Spherical Monolithic Urns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/urna-project.md)
