# Interactive USB Installations Aram Bartholl's 'Dead Drops' is a Peer-to-Peer Sharing System By Meghan Young | Published 2010-10-31 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dead-drops References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2010/10/30/dead-drops/) & [datenform.de](http://datenform.de/blog/dead-drops-preview/) I wish I was visiting New York sometime soon so that I could participate in the 'Dead Drops' interactive art installation. I mean, not only would I be part of something unique, I would feel like a secret agent in the process. Created by artist Aram Bartholl, 'Dead Drops' involves five USB flash drives that have been implanted into random walls around the city. The artist invites people to upload and download from any of the sites. You never know what you might get, but that's the beauty of it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 79% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Peer-to-peer Sharing Systems:** Opportunities to create new platforms for secure peer-to-peer sharing systems. - **Interactive Art Installations:** Innovations in the use of technology to enhance interactive art experiences. - **Digital Street Installations:** Creating digital installations in public spaces to foster community engagement. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Culture:** Innovating the art and culture industry through interactive and immersive experiences. - **Technology:** Integrating new technologies and platforms into public spaces to enhance community interactions. - **Cyber-security:** Developing secure digital sharing platforms and addressing cybersecurity breaches in public installations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Immersive Public Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immersive-public-art-installation.md) - [Digital City-Inspired Art Works](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grand-central-station.md) - [Robotic Digital Surveillance Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/accept-all.md) - [Self-Expression Encouraging Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-window.md) - [Multisensory Environmental Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aa-murakami.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Interactive Mountain Oracles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whispering-mountains.md) - [Tubed Immersive Organ-Like Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/organlike-installation.md) - [Unique Interactive Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-aurora.md)
