# Geometric Shuttered Lighting The Daylight Lamp Sculptures by Philippe Malouin are Illusory By Meghan Young | Published 2012-08-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/daylight-lamp-sculptures References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/daylight-lamp-sculpturesby-philippe-malouin) & [philippemalouin](http://www.philippemalouin.com/welcome.html) Sometimes a person wants artwork without having to invest in artwork; the Daylight Lamp Sculptures allow people to decorate the walls of their home and office in an artistically practical way. The [modern geometric shapes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-drape-light) of these [wall-mounted lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-lighting-design) could be likened to glowing paintings rather than light fixtures. Made to resemble [shuttered windows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vindow), the Daylight Lamp Sculptures also give the illusion that the glow is from the sun streaming through the cracks instead of from the LED strips lining their edges. The Daylight Lamp Sculptures are created by Philippe Malouin, a designer born in Montreal and based in London. Based on the tangram, the fixtures can be arranged and rearranged to form larger shapes, really making them into a work of art. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 73% | Activity: 72% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Geometric Lighting:** The use of geometric shapes in lighting design creates opportunities for illusion and practical art. - **Modular Lighting:** Modular lighting fixtures that can be arranged and rearranged inspire artistic creativity and individualized design. - **Illusory Design:** Creating lighting design that plays with perception and creates the illusion of natural light opens up opportunities for innovative and unconventional lighting solutions. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design:** Integrating geometric and modular lighting fixtures into interior design opens up opportunities for practical and artistic expression. - **Lighting Design:** Innovations in lighting design that play with perception and create the illusion of natural light offer new and unconventional solutions that could disrupt the industry. - **Furniture Design:** Combining lighting fixtures and furniture design opens up opportunities for functional and artistic pieces that could disrupt the industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Geometry Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polyshape-lamp.md) - [Sculptural Metal Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polyshape.md) - [Scenic Architecture Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/architecture-inspired-table-lamp.md) - [Window-Emulating Lighting Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/window-chronicles.md) - [Emotional Light Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miror-collection.md) - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md) - [Customizable Minimal Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-delta-lamp.md) - [Organically Shaped Shadow Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loops-lamp.md) - [Modern Dynamic Structural Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/horizon-table-light.md)
