# Red Robot Recliners The David Weeks Cubebot Couch is a Lifesize Action-Figure By Josh Triantafilou | Published 2012-04-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-weeks References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2012/04/13/giant-cubebot-by-david-weeks-for-quinze-milanand-areaware-at-most/) & [davidweeksstudio](http://davidweeksstudio.com/) Designer David Weeks has joined forces with the Belgian firm Quinze and [Milan](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/door-knobs-exhibition) to unveil an over-sized furniture version of Weeks' Cubebot Toys. Their creation will represent [Areaware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woven-structures) in Milan this month at the design festival MOST. Angular, block-like robots may not be many people's idea of comfortable furniture, but this [Cubebot-inspired sofa](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/come-together-robot) was never intended to be a common chesterfield. It is as much a sculpture as it is furniture. In fact, it could be used on a movie set as a prop or backdrop if needed. Still, the couch is big enough that a grown man can comfortably lie on it. Moving may be a bit of trouble though. Most apartments and houses are not made to accommodate large, eccentric, conceptual designs. A smaller version of this Cubebot couch would be a nice addition to the homestead. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 68% | Activity: 67% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Giant Furniture:** Designing oversized and unique furniture pieces for artistic expression - **Functional Sculpture:** Creating furniture pieces that double as decor or props - **Toy-inspired Decor:** Designing furniture pieces based on popular toy designs ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Opportunity to create unique and artful furniture pieces for high-end residences or commercial spaces - **Movie Industry:** Opportunity to design furniture pieces used as props in the entertainment industry - **Toy Manufacturing:** Creating furniture inspired by popular toy designs to appeal to children and collectors ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Versatile Modular Couches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transformer-couch-20.md) - [Family-Friendly Modular Couches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rubik-v-cloud-modular-couch.md) - [Laidback Modular Sofa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/natuzzi-bao.md) - [Curvaceous Modular Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blocks-modular-sofa.md) - [Stacked Brick-Like Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-brick-modular-sofa.md) - [Plush Sculptural Lounge Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rokko.md) - [Voice-Enabled Recliner Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sitjoy-smartsofa.md) - [Modular Multifunctional Sofa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hulala-home-elitenest.md) - [Mountainous Magnetic Wall-Mounted Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mousarris-summit-modular-sofa.md)
