# Doorknob Artistic Murals David Goldberg Recreates van Gogh's Starry Night With Hardware By Meghan Young | Published 2012-10-22 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-goldberg References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/david-goldberg-starry-night) & [styleture](http://www.styleture.com/2011/11/09/starry-night-mural/) David Goldberg might not be an artist, he is a hardware store owner after all, but he sure has an artistic streak. After collecting various discontinued doorknobs and other door accessories, he has finally put them to good use. David Goldberg has created a large-scale mural outside of his shop [Union Hardware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/natnov-bioscience) in Bethesda, Maryland. Mimicking the famous artwork Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh, the doorknob mural is incredible. Using 1,250 doorknobs, lever, plates and more, David Goldberg (now sometimes referred to as David van Go-berg) took four months to create his masterpiece. According to My Modern Met, "Folklore associated with the mural suggests that touching a specific series of knobs or levers will result in varying rewards." For instance, Italian chrome levers foresee a pasta dinner while crystal star knobs predict large diamonds. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 68% | Activity: 69% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Upcycled Art:** Exploring the use of discarded materials to create unique works of art. - **Interactive Murals:** Incorporating touch or movement elements into murals to create an interactive experience for viewers. - **Artistic Hardware:** Using everyday hardware items in unconventional ways to create artistic masterpieces. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Design:** Opportunity for artists to experiment with unconventional materials and techniques to create innovative works of art. - **Retail:** Hardware stores and other retailers can explore partnerships with local artists to incorporate unique art installations into their stores to enhance customer experience. - **Event Planning:** For events and exhibitions, incorporating interactive murals can provide an engaging and memorable experience for attendees. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [3D-Printed Door Gear](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ross-lovegroves-door-handles.md) - [Domed Door Knob Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/h03-knob-on-half-moon.md) - [Artist-Themed Apparel Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buttercloth.md) - [Bold Wooden Hardware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wide-guy-door-pull.md) - [Monochromatic Sculptural Gateways](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-gateway.md) - [Sculptural Holiday Window Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/holiday-window-display1.md) - [Sculptural Artful Hardware Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/petra.md) - [Commemorative Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-fabric-of-bell.md) - [Striking Glass Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-portraits.md)
