Using an old pump organ and many cables attached to parts of an old victorian home, he has created ‘Playing the Building’ which uses the home as an instrument. The ‘Playing the Building’ project by David Byrne sends air through the cables, which then causes certain [parts of the home to vibrate](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/standing-wave-house) at certain times. The house can create [40 different sounds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sound-maestro), all through cables and air. I’d love to go see it! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 4% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Air-powered Instruments:** Playing the Building project by David Byrne demonstrates the potential of using air-powered instruments. - **Interactive Architecture:** Playing the Building project by David Byrne showcases the possibilities of interactive architecture. - **Alternative Instrument Making:** David Byrne’s Playing the Building project inspires innovation in using unconventional materials to create musical instruments. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Music:** The music industry can benefit from the technological advancements and creative inspirations of Playing the Building project by David Byrne. - **Architecture:** Architecture industry can explore the possibilities of interactive buildings and structures through the Playing the Building project by David Byrne. - **Home Improvement:** Home improvement industry can explore innovative ways to repurpose old parts of homes, as demonstrated by the Playing the Building project by David Byrne. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Water Movement Sculptural Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inner-waves.md) - [Immersive Listening Home Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-sound.md) - [Neo-Brutalist Immersive Audio Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hifi-listening-room.md) - [Tubed Immersive Organ-Like Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/organlike-installation.md) - [Ambient Atmospheric Music Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paul-stolper.md) - [Tape Deck Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magnetic-folklore.md) - [Musical-Themed Kinetic Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/daydreamer.md) - [Heritage Sound Playgrounds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hornscape-playground.md) - [Airborne Concert Halls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arka-nova.md)
