But just because Perillo looks to movies for inspiration the same way his contemporaries do, doesn’t mean his artwork is similar to his peers’ in any way. Perillo is an American illustrator whose cartoonish drawing style is infused with a playful attitude and extreme whimsy. He crafts his quirky illustrations using [vector graphics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halftone), but his final images retain that hand-drawn feel despite being super sleek. In that sense, he combines the best of the analog and digital worlds of art in an amalgamation that’s uniquely his own. Some of the films that have influenced Dave Perillo’s kooky words include Planet of the Apes, Weird Science, Edward Scissorhands, Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters and a whole slew of [Pixar](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pixar-place-hotel) films. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.3/10 - Popularity: 69% | Activity: 82% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Vector Graphics in Art:** The use of vector graphics in art allows for a unique blend of hand-drawn feel and sleek digital aesthetics. - **Cartoonish Illustrations:** Illustrators are embracing a cartoonish drawing style that infuses artwork with playfulness and whimsy. - **Cinema-inspired Art:** Artists are finding inspiration in movies to create unique and visually appealing illustrations. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Design:** Artists can explore the use of vector graphics to create innovative and visually striking illustrations. - **Animation:** Animation studios can incorporate cartoonish drawing styles in their projects to add a playful and whimsical touch. - **Film and Entertainment:** The film industry can collaborate with artists to create promotional materials and merchandise inspired by movies. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Classical Posters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sen-donnan.md) - [Limited Humorous Art Prints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-shrigley-1.md) - [Revived Retro Animations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stranger-things-animated-series.md) - [AI-Generated Christmas Posters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christmas-posters.md) - [Animation-Inspired Themed Hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pixar-place-hotel.md) - [Holiday Animation Capsule](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kith-x-pixar-holiday-2025.md) - [Retro Space-Themed Puzzled Posters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/john-carter.md) - [Retro Cinema Collectibles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightup-delorean-popcorn.md) - [Animation-Inspired Collaborative Streetwear](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pixar-collection.md)
