# Surreal Skeletal Captures The Darren Pearson Light Paintings are the Real Deal By Sarah Nazim | Published 2012-08-23 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/darren-pearson-light-paintings References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/darius-twin-light-graffiti-skeletons) & [dariustwin](http://dariustwin.com/) The Darren Pearson [light paintings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shapes-of-light) are incredibly surreal, and surprisingly created without photoshop. Pearson, who is also known as Darius Twin, uses a [special light technique](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alba-light) that involves spinning a glass prism and shinning light into a camera lens. The characters portrayed in each shot resemble humans, only in skeletal form. This creative art technique is almost like seeing a mix of cartoons and real life. The contrast between the [dark skies and the bright lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible) makes the figurines stand out. Artists that can think outside the box and create fresh and visually appealing experiences are sure to gain a huge following. These skeletal shots make for great modern display pieces, and could also work as GIFs. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 45% | Activity: 29% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Surreal Light Paintings:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop new techniques and equipment to create unique and visually stunning light paintings. - **Mix of Cartoons and Reality:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine animation or digital art with real-life photography to create captivating visual experiences. - **Modern Display Pieces:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design and produce innovative and customizable art pieces for modern display, incorporating unique lighting techniques. ### Where This Applies - **Photography:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop new camera equipment and accessories to facilitate the creation of surreal light paintings. - **Digital Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create software or applications that merge cartoons or animation with real-life photography for unique artistic expressions. - **Art and Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore new materials and manufacturing techniques to create modern and customizable display pieces inspired by the surreal light paintings trend. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Festive Light Painting Techniques](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-painting-1.md) - [Life-Like 3D Canvases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lumino.md) - [Tree Branch-Formed Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/celestial-attraction.md) - [Blurry Abstract Photography Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-allusion.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Wonderous Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/your-psychoacoustic-light-ensemble.md) - [Emotional Light Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miror-collection.md) - [Concept-Driven Public Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ivan-toth-depea.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md)
