# Cautionary Holiday Statistics The Darker Side of Halloween Infographic Shows Creepy Crime Rates By Souzan Michael | Published 2011-10-23 | Special Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/darker-side-of-halloween-infographic References: [onlyinfographic](http://www.onlyinfographic.com/2011/the-darker-sides-of-halloween/) & [halloweenexpress](http://www.halloweenexpress.com/) The Darker Side of Halloween infographic is a creepy look at the crimes that take place on that night. The statistics are sure to shock you. For instance, in 2009, five people were injured on Halloween weekend in Chicago due to different shootings. The 'Freak Fest' event in Madison in 2002 resulted in a 65,000 person riot that involved bottle throwing, police harassment and vandalized stores at the hands of drunken rioters dressed up in Halloween costumes. A not so surprising statistic in the Darker Side of Halloween infographic is the robberies that take place on October 31st. Since people are already dressed up, it's easy (yet unfortunate) to see why robbers would pick this night to commit a crime. Check out the Darker Side of Halloween infographic for other stats like child crimes and Halloween-related paranoia. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 69% | Activity: 36% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Special](https://www.trendhunter.com/special) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Increase in Halloween-related Crimes:** The Darker Side of Halloween infographic highlights the rise in crimes such as shootings, riots, and robberies on Halloween, presenting an opportunity for increased security measures and awareness campaigns. - **Halloween-inspired Public Safety Initiatives:** This infographic sheds light on the need for community-driven efforts to prevent crimes like child crimes and general Halloween-related paranoia, leading to opportunities for public safety organizations to develop innovative programs. - **Data-driven Halloween Safety Solutions:** The Darker Side of Halloween infographic emphasizes the importance of data analysis to identify crime patterns and create effective strategies for reducing incidents, presenting an opportunity for technology companies to develop cutting-edge safety solutions. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Security:** The rise in Halloween-related crimes highlighted in the Darker Side of Halloween infographic creates an opportunity for the security industry to offer enhanced security systems, surveillance solutions, and crime prevention strategies. - **Public Safety:** The need for community-driven initiatives against Halloween-related crimes and child crimes, as shown in the infographic, presents an opportunity for public safety organizations to create innovative programs and campaigns. - **Technology:** The emphasis on data analysis for Halloween safety solutions, as depicted in the Darker Side of Halloween infographic, opens up opportunities for technology companies to develop advanced tools, software, and analytics platforms for crime prevention and public safety. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Spooky Slider Packaging](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halloween-retail-packaging.md) - [Halloween-Ready Animatronic Line-Ups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halloween-animatronics.md) - [Witty Toy-Brand Horror Posters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/horror-poster.md) - [Glow-in-the-Dark Wine Labels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/19-crimes-wine.md) - [Haunted Winchester Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/haunted-winchester-house.md) - [Halloween-Themed Advent Calendars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/13-nights-of-halloween-advent-calendar.md) - [Globalized Spooky Destinations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spooky-adventures.md) - [Halloween-Themed Beverage Promotions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halloween-onpack-promotion.md) - [Gourmet Halloween-Themed Chocolates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gourmet-halloweenthemed-chocolates.md)
