# Eco-Friendly Wax Fixtures The Speliothem Lamp by Daniel Kamp Does More than Illuminating By Ana Lopez | Published 2012-01-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/daniel-kamp References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/Speleothem-Lamps/1786662) & [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/danielkampdesign) The New Zealand-based industrial designer Daniel Kamp designed a lamp entitled The Speliothem Lamp to send a message about the use of waste. This project features a [lighting piece](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wa-lamp) that, when used, creates [wax sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lapso). Similar to an hourglass, this art piece lets wax pass from one side to another as time and heat increases. To ensure the piece does not make a mess, Kamp inserted a halogen bulb into a glass tube that has a small hole on its bottom to allow the melting wax to fall on the floor of the piece, not the floor of your home. “The driving aim of this project was to create a piece that would send a message concerning the potential of converting ‘[waste outputs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nytt-lys-collection)’ into constructive outputs," explains Daniel Kamp on his website. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 29% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sustainability Light Fixtures:** Eco-friendly lighting fixtures that convert waste into art. - **Artistic Energy Conservation:** Innovative designs that use the process of waste conversion to create artistic creations and conserve energy. - **Wax-based Decor:** Using wax as a decorative element in home design and lighting fixtures. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Goods:** Home decor and lighting companies could explore designs that incorporate sustainable materials to appeal to environmentally-conscious consumers. - **Art and Design:** Artists and designers could combine innovative waste reduction techniques with creative expression to offer a unique value proposition to potential customers. - **Energy Conservation:** Companies focused on energy conservation could utilize similar processes to create products that appeal to consumers who prioritize environmental sustainability. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modular Wax Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-soft-solids.md) - [Luxe Candle-Melting Lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/infra-luna-20.md) - [Modern Marble Waste Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sole-lamp.md) - [Utensil Waste Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nytt-lys.md) - [Melt-Resembling Portable Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/melt-light.md) - [Flame-Free Candle Warmers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/retro-candle-warmer-lamp.md) - [Naturally Inspired Digital Candles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magma-lamp.md) - [Vintage-Inspired Candle Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vintageinspired-candle-lamps.md) - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md)
