# Dangling Rodent Lighting The 'Rattus Norvegicus Rex' Chandelier By Elsa Blaine | Published 2008-10-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dangling-rodent-lighting-rattus-norvegicus-rex-chandelier References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/rattus-norvegicus-rex/) & [nonfictiongroup.blogspot](http://nonfictiongroup.blogspot.com/2008/10/rattus-norvegicus-rex.html) The 'Rattus Norvegicus Rex' chandelier celebrates the common brown rat in a glorious [circle of hanging rodents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baccarat-x-harry-nuriev). Made of porcelain, the rats dangle from their tails enjoying bunches of red glass berries. The top of the fixture consists of a ring of porcelain leaves and acorns which resemble red and white fishing bobbers. From the look of the photos taken in the dark from beneath the light, it is most definately not a fixture you want to hang over your bed! It would, however, be fun over a dining room table. Theoretically. Created by the Ohio-based Nonfiction Design Collective, the [light fixture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/customizable-lighting-fixtures) was originally an all-white prototype named "The Fancy Rat Chandelier." The final version measures 7" x 14" and is available for $1250. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 28% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Animal-inspired Home Decor:** Decorating with unique, animal-inspired pieces can add a playful and eye-catching element to any interior. - **Porcelain Lighting Fixtures:** Porcelain is an unexpected yet versatile material choice for cutting-edge lighting designs. - **Nontraditional Materials in Lighting Design:** Designers are using unconventional materials, such as porcelain, to create innovative and unexpected lighting fixtures. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Decor:** With the rise of bold and unique decor styles, the home decor industry has an opportunity to embrace more playful and unconventional design elements. - **Lighting Design:** Incorporating unexpected materials and designs in lighting fixtures can set a brand apart in the competitive lighting design industry. - **Artisanal Craftsmanship:** The growing appreciation for unique artistry and craftsmanship in home goods creates an opportunity for artisans to experiment with innovative and unconventional designs and materials. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Leather Disc Modern Chandeliers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pell-chandelier.md) - [Matte White Dynamic Chandeliers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2097-chandelier.md) - [Brick Puzzle Chandeliers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antique-chandelier.md) - [Dynamic Artful Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ghost-chandelier.md) - [Gritty Rodent-Inspired Boots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ratboot.md) - [Plant-Inspired Dynamic Chandeliers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blossom-chandelier.md) - [Sculptural Contemporary Chandeliers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volant.md) - [Expertly Machined Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prose-light.md) - [Otherworldly Lighting Fixture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/otherworldly-lighting-fixture.md)
