# Stunning Razor-Sharp Structures ‘Dancing Dragons’ is a Gigantic Transparent Building By Erin Kirkpatrick | Published 2012-05-21 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dancing-dragons-by-adrian-smith References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2012/05/17/dancing-dragons-by-adrian-smith-gordon-gill-architecture/) & [smithgill](http://smithgill.com/) The latest of fifteen skyscrapers commissioned for the Yongsan International Business District are the ‘Dancing Dragons’ by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. The Chicago-based firm is set to build a [pair of 450 meter-high Dancing Dragon towers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rruga-adem-jashari), complete with [glimmering glass scales](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/one-river-north). The scales on each tower are meant to resemble the scales of a mystical dragon. Although these sky-scraping structures have yet to be built, their proposed location is a gold-mine and fitting for these architectural triumphs. The towers will be positioned beside each other in the [fast-growing business and commercial district](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/1201-brickell-bay-drive) in Seoul, South Korea. In a design similar to the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the towers will have a joint supportive central core, as well as a series of wings on the sides. After completion, the towers will hold offices, apartments, hotels and shops that span over a total of 88 floors. These towers will be due for completion in 2024. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 43% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Transparent Skyscrapers:** The use of transparent construction materials for skyscrapers creates an opportunity for architects to design visually stunning buildings that can attract attention and interest. - **Vertical Mixed-use Development:** The integration of office, residential, and commercial spaces in a single skyscraper structure presents an opportunity for developers to maximize the use of limited land space in urban areas. - **Joint-supportive Skyscraper Design:** Designing skyscrapers with a joint-supportive central core and wings on the sides, as seen in the Dancing Dragons tower, presents an opportunity to create structures that can withstand seismic activities. ### Who This Affects Most - **Construction Industry:** The construction industry can take advantage of the latest trends in skyscraper design and construction materials to create visually stunning buildings with improved environmental sustainability features. - **Real Estate Industry:** Real estate developers can benefit from the integration of mixed-use spaces in a single skyscraper structure, providing a range of options for tenants seeking multiple amenities and services in one building. - **Architecture Industry:** The architecture industry has the opportunity to create innovative and award-winning skylines by exploring new design concepts and techniques for tall buildings, such as the joint-supportive design seen in Dancing Dragons. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Greenery-Filled Skyscraper Terrarium](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/terrarium-cheongdam.md) - [Gracefully Dynamic Skyscrapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bond-tower.md) - [Glass Facade Premium Skyscrapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/henderson-office.md) - [Lotus Plant-Inspired Skyscrapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/one-future.md) - [Exoskeleton Stepped-Back Skyscrapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bdo-unibank-inc.md) - [Porcelain-Clad Skyscrapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/selldorf-architects.md) - [Diamond-Inspired Luxe Skyscrapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-miami.md) - [Dragon-Themed Drone Light Shows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/legend-of-the-dragon-gate.md) - [Feminine Silhouette Tall Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/telus-sky-tower.md)
