# Giant Interactive TV Remotes World's Largest Remote Control Made From DDR Mats By IdeaMan | Published 2009-03-07 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dance-dance-remote-worlds-largest-remote-control-made-from-ddr-mats References: [newlaunches](http://www.newlaunches.com/archives/diy_ddr_floor_matflip_channels_with_the_worlds_largest_remote.php) & [michbex](http://michbex.com/wordpress/?p=3) This is one remote that you’ll never misplace--it’s simply too big to lose! Billed as the [world’s largest remote](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loewe-stellar-tv), it’s a homemade device cleverly made from two [PlayStation 2 "Dance Dance Revolution" mats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/boardrop). The inventor explains on his website that he was inspired by a very large remote that he found at his local shopping mall. He was convinced he could do better--or, more appropriately, *bigger*--and this is what he came up with. If you’re a couch potato, what a good way to do the thing you love, channel surfing, while still getting at least a *little* exercise! (A very little, obviously, but, hey, it all adds up.) It doesn’t appear to be for sale, but the creator offers step-by-step instructions, so if you’re technically inclined you can build your own. Speaking of channel surfing: What if you could use the [floor mat remote control](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linxura-smart-home-controller) concept, but make it in the shape of a surfboard! Now *that* would be cool! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 22% | Activity: 78% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Inventions](https://www.trendhunter.com/inventions) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Giant Interactive TV Remotes:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in remote control technology by creating larger and more interactive devices. - **DDR Mat Remote Controls:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation by repurposing gaming accessories, like DDR mats, to create unique remote control experiences. - **Exercise-inspired Remotes:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation by integrating physical activity into everyday tasks, like channel surfing, to promote a healthier lifestyle. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Consumer Electronics:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in the consumer electronics industry by reinventing traditional remote control devices with larger and more interactive designs. - **Gaming Accessories:** Opportunities for disruptive innovation in the gaming accessories industry by repurposing products like DDR mats for alternative functions, such as remote controls. - **Health and Fitness:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in the health and fitness industry by integrating exercise into everyday activities, like controlling TV channels. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Universal Smart Home Remotes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switchbot-universal-remote.md) - [Transforming TV Controllers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/controller-and-remote.md) - [T-Shaped Remote Controls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sightless-remote-control.md) - [Intuitive Touchscreen Remote Controls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/touchsense-remote.md) - [Remote-Holding Streaming Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pop-art-tv-box.md) - [Oversized Micro LED Televisions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tcl-x11h-max.md) - [Solar-Powered Remote Controls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omni-remotes-model-p.md) - [Motion-Sensing Remote Projectors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jmgo-n3-ultra-max.md) - [Modular Gaming Controller Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multiverse-controller.md)
